This is going to be my fourth. The newest one I got on the 23 of January has a wobbly base and it squeaks. I am tired of all these returns.

Then buy a different computer. Seriously, I don't understand you guys who go through 18 replacements hoping that the 19th will be flawless.

    seriously

furthermore, WHY THE F create a thread about it? you haven't added anything to the conversation except you "are tired of all these returns" ?!?!

    WE DON'T CARE.

you have done nothing but clutter the forum with this needless waste of space.

do us all a favor and just don't hit 'submit'

he's one of those people that can never be pleased. A wobbly base and it squeaks?!? C'MON! If after the 1st return they didnt get it right a normal person would just get a refund and go with a different company. There are alot of legit complaints on this forum, but there are alot people with OCD, who post threads, who will find fault in ANY and EVERYTHING!

The wobbly base is not a trivial issue, if you will notice it while typing. Wobbliness would be unaceptable in any other consumer item, even the cheapest dinner plate. So, it is certainly reasonable to expect an expensive computer not to wobble, even if its a Dell. There is no reason why Dell laptops couldn't have the same quality control as other computer makes, except that Dell seems not to want to be bothered with quality control.

As for the squeakiness, that depends if it occurs in normal use, e.g when typing. If it only happens when you provoke it, e.g. by pressing a specific spot on the laptop, I would ignore it unless it was sign that there was a broken part or a loose fastener that would create other problems.

At least one person has posted about being able to fix a wobbly base by forcibly straightening the computer against a table. This did not cause any apparent damage, but obviously, this might create more sqeaks, not to mention other damage. It might be a desperate mesure if you really love your computer and are still within your warranty period.

If you are unwilling to do that, I agree that you should return the laptop immediately, and get another make.

However, in the future, it would be best to keep adding to your earlier thread rather than creating a new thread each time.

Hello. I got my XPS for a Christmas present for my mom. I bought the 8400 nvidia GPU for her. She doesnt wants something alot smaller so i will take this one but i would like to replace the video card with an 8600M. Dell said they would sell me one when they have them in stoch so i was wondering how hard is it to replace myself. I have built plenty of desktops and also i added more Ram myself. Is this something you guys would recommend i try to do myself? Any help would be apreciated.
    Thank you in advance.

After being a part of this forum for just a few weeks, and having recently taken delivery of a 'perfect' M1530, it amazes me that there is such a broad difference from one machine to the next. I know nothing about where these machines are manufactured but, if it is done in multiple facilities, I wonder if it has anything to do with where it comes from.

Im astonished by the fact that they answered that they would sell you a GPU. The GPU is mounted directly on the motherboard and unlike the CPU, the graphics units lacks a mounting device so it's very hard if not impossible to do something like this on your own (and you will be so far past the line regarding opening your computer and voiding ur warranty, so the line is a dot to you). I would assume that the best/only way for you to go about this is either return the computer or ask to buy a new motherboard.

Sorry for the not so optimistic answer

I completely agree here. I wish people would ask legitamite questions, or comments, but when have the threads are "Dell Sucks" or "I am on my 1 millionth return" it gets old and fast. If you are not satisfied just return the damn notebook plain and simple.

I would of rather had you lie to me. Just joking. I kind of thought this might be the case. I called a few days before my 28 days were up so i suspect she might of told me what i wanted to hear. F*$k! I wish i would of just retured the thing. Oh well. I guess in the future since i buy all the computers in the family we will never go back to Dell. I asked the rep if there was any problem with replacing the card and she said it was only a supply issue and she would get back to me. Would it be very expensive to take it to a professional to replace the GPU? Anyway thanx for your help.

I'd hate to be a CSR... basically you're given pressure to just deal with things with a result of not costing money and attempting not to pass onto 2nd line, no surprise that some people will say anything just to get rid of the bod on the end of the phone. I know I'd certainly blag it!
