Opinions wanted on Studio XPS 1647

Is the 1647 the new replacement for the 1645?
Can anyone confirm it does NOT have the power problems?

Here's what I'm contemplating - opinions accepted.
Only thing ticking me off is no Blu-ray option available until 4th week of Jan.

The throttling is annoying and i5 procs should be better suited to this system. I'd wait.

 

Even on the 1647? This is supposedly the new unit...

 

I'd at least wait until people start buying this model to see if they've dealt with the severe 1645 design issues.

IMO, not enough truly-satisfied people to warranty buying one. I really like mine with the documented work arounds, but I am also stuck with it at this point.

The biggest highlight out of all three threads that you should take home with you is that the throttling issue is not resolved, and if they told you it was, you were lied to.

 

Well, I just went to get the quote in the cart, and showed up as the 1645. Went to dell.com to chat, and sure enough, it's 1645.

For the life of me, I CANNOT understand why they keep doing these things to their premier laptops! Last time it was the NVidia issue, and they denounced it as false for a LOOONG time, and finally came clean.

I don't even remember ever seeing something like this happening.
Did noone TEST the dang thing???
