Optimizing Audio On XPS 9560

I've had a few different audio issues. I've upgraded to the Dell driver page's latest Realtek driver. I've disabled and enabled MaxxAudioPro. And I've had a few issues with plugging in headphones that either didn't get recognized at all, or forced me to manually select which device I was plugging to the headphone jack from a pop up that seems quite unnecessary.

I've also noticed that with different drivers and with MaxxAudio on and off that the audio quality can vary quite a bit.

So once and for all, what is the best configuration to have on the 9560 to optimize the audio both from the speakers and headphones?

 

On the 9550 it was recommended that all maxxaudio was disabled otherwise the laptop speakers would distort to the point of requiring repair.

 

Dell just released a new Realtek driver so I installed it, did the restarts and all seemed fine. I played a test youtube video, audio sounded good....but then I plugged in some headphones and NOTHING happened. Not even the annoying pop up asking what was input into the jack. Audio just keeps playing out of the speakers. WHAT DO I DO? I've read that disabling maxxaudio at the start can help but won't that make the audio quality significantly worse?

 

Did you disable MaxxAudio? This happened with me when I disabled it -- the machine simply wouldn't recognize headphones. The headphone functionality came back once I reenabled MaxxAudio (as did the annoying pop-up, but it looks like that's the price to pay for working headphones on this laptop).

 

What timing! I just restarted and tried this before your post and had the exact same result. So now we're back to this really irritating pop up every single time I plug in headphones. Any fix for that?

I also tried uninstalling the driver altogether and that made the audio extremely loud though I had no headphone issues. Despite what I've heard and read, I actually think the audio on this computer has been solid. Maybe I'm clueless, or maybe the settings are part of it, so I would want to have my audio drivers and configurations set for the best sound performance but I would love to be able to plug in headphones with the normal expected result of the sound immediately heading into them without a pop up.

Where to go from here?

 

How did you disable MaxxAudio? I just turn if off using the toggle bar in its own console so that I won't have those annoying speaker sound effects but still with the auto-recognizing and microphone features

 

I disabled it in the start up program list. I don't mind the audio quality though..I just want it to stop prompting me every time I plug in headphones.

 

Going insane. Had some kind of audio error that told me to restart so I did. Now headphones are going unrecognized again despite maxxaudio enabled at startup. What the hell is going on here?

Any advice? I am using a local account if that could somehow be relevant. But the issues really seem driver/maxx audio related. I have had this issue with different drivers. I don't really understand the issue now.

I can't put my finger on it. Out of the box, my laptop battery was working okay. Now I'm getting pretty terrible 3:30 run times with light use. The only main things I've loaded are the newest graphics driver 4627 and updated to the latest Realtek driver on Dell's driver website.

What should I do? Can anyone give exact details of what version of Realtek driver they would recommend loading? Could it be something else or do you think this poster has had the same experience as me?

 

Ah, this again. Happened only the day before yesterday. I went and uninstalled my audio driver and updated to the latest one. Then I prevented WaveAudio from from running at startup. The result? Headphones would not be recognized every now and then. Solution?
Just install the default audio driver 8037_A03 and enable Waxaudio at startup
