    Hey there guys,
Just curious- is anyone else having problems getting certain games to recognize the Nvidia card, rather than the intel graphics? Project64, for instance, will not recognize that there is a better card, no matter if I run it with the high performance setting.

go into your nvidia graphics settings (right click on desktop)

there should be an option to manage 3d settings... from there you can add specific applications/exe files into the dropdown menu and set to auto-select graphics processor or use high-performance nvidia GPU...

if this doesn't work try right clicking on the project64 exe and there should be an option to "run with high performance nvidia GPU" or something like that. Not on my laptop at the moment so can't see the actual terms but hopefully you get the idea ;-)

What jon said works. But yes there are still quite a lot of old games which arent automaticlly recognised. 1 game i played it started with the hd 3000 and for a while i didnt notice much difference, its not bad the 3000.

Auto-recognition isn't perfect, but decent. Older games do tend to not grab the right GPU, but as Jon said, the NVidia control panel has a way to set exemptions for cases exactly like this one.

Yes, there is an issue with optimus and some older games...

For example, GTA4 runs fine on the xps15, however, if you use one of the icehancer or enbseries mods on the game, then the nvidia card will no longer recognize the game no matter what you do...
Changing the nvidia control panel to start with nvidia card does not work... even if you have it set to always run the nvidia card under global settings, it will only run under the intel card...
I noticed that the mods use a dx9 dll, so it seems that optimus may not be able to detect games that use certain dx9 implementations...
I don't play many older games so i haven't had issues with any other games so far...
From the googling i have done on this, there were many people who have this issue, but there doesn't seem to be any fix for it...

I played Civ 5 using Dx9 and it used the Nvidia card. Hmmm...
