Hey all,
I made an order and it's gone to production but in light of the new i5 and i7s I want to amend this order. How do I exchange the order? Any news on the i5 or new i7 coming to the Dell UK website for the XPS 16?
-
-
You can't amend. You have to get it back and return it. Order a new one.
-
pray that ur order goes on "Delay" then u have the option to cancel the order.
-
Well that royally sucks!
will I incur any charge for returning it?
I'm considering replacying the P8700 with a new CPU, any ideas? -
Restocking fee probably.
-
Unlurking to answer as I looked into this just last week
In the UK I assume, within 7 days of delivery, up to £20 plus vat unless it's defective or Dell made an error: http://support.euro.dell.com/suppor...e/en/returns_entry?c=uk&l=en&s=gen&~ck=anavml
HTH -
Dell are indeed complying with UK law here. Telesales/online purchases are protected by a 7 day cooling off period from date of delievery during which time you are within your rights to return the item for whatever reason you see fit. The law does however state you must pay for the cost of the return unless the product is inherently faulty or not as advertised.
-
CRAP!
It's been shipped, If I send it back right away will I pay anything but shipping? Restocking fee? -
If you contact Dell as soon as you recieve it, I beleive you can arrange collection and they will only reduce the refund by the cost of shipping (20+vat).
"If you'd like to return your Dell order please note:
* You must contact Customer Service within 7 working days of delivery.
* Unless the product is defective or the return is a direct result of a Dell error, a return charge will be applied up to 20£ excl. VAT" -
honestly you're probably better of with the P series. the i7 chips get throttled badly. not worth it as when they throttle they arn't even half as fast as the P series.
-
Once the throttling has been foxed how would they compare?
I'll give Dell a call, maybe I can get them to pick it up the evening it gets send t me. Any news on the new CPUs in the UK?
Also how long for refund? -
Quad core i7 yes. Shouldn't be the same for the dual-core i5 and i7 chips Intel announced at CES
-
Just refuse it when it comes to the door and you wont get restocking fees.
-
I heard that takes longer!
-
That will confuse them when they get it back especially if they are not expecting it, BUT you will not get restocking fees that's for sure. Another route you can take is use it and return it before 21 days and prove to technical support that there is something wrong with it, then you might get a full refund.
-
It's £20 I'm not that bothered ...
-
You have to accept the delivery never reject it and as Dell's site states you have seven days to return it without any questions asked, its your legal right.
If you'd like to return your Dell order please note:
* You must contact Customer Service within 7 working days of delivery.
* Unless the product is defective or the return is a direct result of a Dell error, a return charge will be applied up to 20£ excl. VAT. -
Thats interesting because I was told by some reps that I can simply reject the shipment. Maybe they were trying to throw the bait

Consumers may cancel their Orders for any reason until, but no later than: 7.3.1 the end of the 7th "working day" (days other than weekend days & public holidays) after the day of receipt of the Product &/or of the Service Order Confir-mation (as applicable);
or 7.3.2 the end of the 7th working day after the date when all such information required by law is supplied.
Additionally under the Sales of Goods Act, since it is a distance contract yo have greater rights. This is because you didnt have the opportunity to examine them before they were shipped to see if they are:
* Of satisfactory quality
* As described
* Fit for intended purpose
* Appropriate to your requirements
With this in mind you will have a 7-day cooling off period, during which time you can cancel the contract and get your money back in full (including delivery charges). Unless otherwise specified (for certain types of products), you should be able to send the items back for free, and not incur any additional charges such as a restocking or admin fee.
Plus, because the Dell laptop is not faulty you cant refuse delivery and it is much simpler just to accept it and return it within seven days. -
I have never heard that before. All i heard is we have 21 days to return the laptop and get a full refund. could be different here in US.
-
Oh that's only applicable to UK.
-
Thanks for all your help guys!
I'm just waiting, I will test the laptop to ensure it's right for me then get Dell to collect. How does the collection go? Is there a fixed time or does it need to be in a certain condition?
All sales reps tell me they don't know about the i5! Any ideas? -
For my case, I ordered a new unit. And when I got the first unit that I ordered, I called Dell and they arranged a return for me. They paid everything including the shipping fees and there was no re-stocking fees. I'm guessing if you are reordering there will be no fees charged because they asked for my new order number.
They then gave me a code and sent me the paid slip for shipping. All I have to do was to return via the assigned shipping service. And you have to return it within 14 days if I'm not mistaken.
That's what in US, at least. -
I would easily order a new unit BUT without any information on when the i5s or the new gfx card on the UK site going around I think it would be a little waste.
-
The i5s were posted on the site on Monday but shortly after they were taken down at least for the 1645. The i5s for the STUDIOs are still available. I hope something better will come up.
-
I used to live in Round Rock and you can't throw a rock without hitting a Dell employee so I have lots of friends that work for Dell. One of them told me that once the unit is being built, you can cancel it. Those units usually end up at the outlet as "Previously Ordered New". Once shipped, you're stuck with it but you can return it.
-
I'm going to test it over the weekend and return it anyay. BUT I want to get news on the bloody i5 or the new i7 for my next order.
