On the 19th I think it was I ordered a M1530. Specs were:

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7500
    3GB, DDR2
15.4 inch Wide Screen WXGA+ TrueLife LCD
    256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
160G 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive Free Fall Sensor

A 2 year warranty included. Total cost was $1616.

Next day I go in and configure a system and notice a I can get something better for $6 more. For only that much more I could upgrade to:

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T9300
    4GB, DDR2
15.4 inch Wide Screen WXGA+ TrueLife LCD
    256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
    250G 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
    And a 3 year warranty.

What gives? Just because I configured it through a different link? That's a hell of a big difference for $6.

Now in the second case it said I would not receive my order until the 19th of May which I thought was ridiculous.

After a few days I decided to go back in and reconfigure again, this time noticing that it would ship out on the 2nd instead of the 12th like the second config.

I call up Dell and ask them how long it would take to refund my credits so that I could use my line of credit right away to order a new system.

I get some India tech support...great... script readers who I can hardly understand at times when they start speaking too fast. Guy tells me 3-5 Business days to refund the credit. I get pissed cause I know I will miss out on the $749 off.

I start up the chat and talk to a nice girl who gives me a phone number and tells me that the credit can go back within minutes. I do that and all is well. (Hey Dell, stop outsourcing Support please?) Credit is back within minutes and I put in a new order for:

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T9300
    Midnight Blue Casing
    4GB, DDR2
15.4 inch Wide Screen WXGA+ TrueLife LED
    256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
160G 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive Free Fall Sensor

3 Year Warranty. Total cost was $1649.30

Now to recap, the reason I ordered it a 3rd time was to cut down on shipping time since the config page said it would ship on the 2nd and not the 12th.

Well I am glad I upgraded to the LED screen based on what was said here and I did lose a bit in HDD space but I don't need it anyhow. But as soon as I placed my order the shipping date said the 12th again. Nice.

I am really hoping this thing ships quicker than the 12th as it is a bit of an emergency backup system.

I just hope I am really happy with this thing, it will be my first real good laptop, have been used to second hand dinosaurs in the past. :)

It almost always ships sooner than the "ship date". They always grossly over-estimate it.

I ordered my laptop on a Friday evening and received it the following Monday (so three days to my doorstep). It depends.. but it shouldn't take more than a week.

wow. Is that what your shipment time said, if not how sooner was it vs the estimated ship date?

I ordered it 4/4/2008 and it was shipped 4/6/2008 (with free ground shipping).

Dell "estimated" it to be shipped 4/15/2008.

Generally build through boxing takes about a week provided that all of your configured parts are available for kitting. I would expect delivery within 8 to 10 days or so of your order date.
