    Quick questions:

I am about to get an XPS 17 - the specs are below (may drop the Blu-Ray 'write' option).

I currently have a Belkin 2.4ghz 802.11g router and use a DSL for two household laptops.

1: The card will work with the existing wireless router?
    2. The the girlfriend who uses a card in her existing HP - we can both access the Belkin router even though our cards are different? one 'G' and one 'N'?

    3. I am vaguely aware of the difference between the N-1030 and the Advanced N - 6230 but do not want to get one that will not work with the router....though I assume either will, perhaps just at a slower speed.

Either will work, they will just run at wireless-g speeds. Yes, you can share the router, as you'll both be using G.

hermitmaster is right on, either will work just not at N speeds. Now if you get a dual-band N router in the future, you will benefit from the extra antenna of the 6230 (and can run on 5GHz instead of 2.4), but on G-networking there is no difference.

I'd go for the 6230 if you want bluetooth else get the 6300 if possible just to make it more future proof.

The 6300 is not an offered option. I got the 6230. Thanks all!

I have the 6230 in my L502x and I can say that it does not work with Netgear WNDR3700 on the 2.4 OR 5GHz ranges. It does however work with all of the Linksys routers we have (WRT120N, WRT310N).

Good luck with the belkin router :)
