Ubuntu is pretty good for having drivers (base drivers) pre-installed and updating them.

Currently, Apple's EULA(End User License Agreement) prohibits installing MAC OS X on any non-apple labeled hardware, and because of this, NBR does not allow discussion of OS X on PC(aka Hackintosh) for any reason. Please do not point to any resources that violate Apple's EULA and/or the forum rules. For discussion on possible reason why Apple prohibits this, please see this thread: Question: Apple OSX - Why not on non-Apple products?

As mentioned, read the stickes in the Linux Compatibility and Software if you are interested in Linux.

Yes , You can mate :D , Just download the the latest Build of Ubuntu (8.10)

here is the Link : http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

then burn the iso image on a CD/DVD , then boot into windows with external HDD connected , pop in the CD/DVD you have burned with Ubuntu Linux ISO you will be present with a Wubi installer the simplest of all Linux installation :D

and this link will answers most of your doubts about it mate :D

    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WubiGuide

the reason i like Wubi is no need to Partition , resizing hazards just install as do for any other app and uninstall if you don't like it :D

if done properly you would see the this when you reboot your system
