    I've got a Dell XPS M1530 and have finally managed to get it to transfer the desktop to a HDTV via a HDMI cable but I'm getting no audio output so far, is there some kind of process I'm missing that will allow the audio to be transmitted aswell ? or should the audio automatically transfer along with the image ?

    You have to manually set your audio output.
    Control Panel -> Sound
    On the playback tab right-click on HDMI and set it as the default device. Should work properly after that.
