A few days ago, I placed an order for the SXPS 13 by going to the direct configuration link on Dells website. I had read a lot of reviews and done my research, and it seemed like the perfect fit for me. I'm starting college this summer and need something that packs a lot of power into a smaller size since I'm majoring in engineering. I also do a lot with music and some of that software can be a real powerhog.

Now after I placed my order I began to read through the SXPS 13 owners lounge thread to look at the pics and just get an idea of what to expect. After reading through the a good portion of the thread, I'm starting to question whether or not I should stick with it. It won't ship for a while since the hard drives aren't available at the moment, so I have a while to change/cancel if I decide to.

So overall, what have your general impressions of the laptop been? Would you reccomend it to a friend? Anything I should be keep an eye out for?

Thanks in advance for your help

I bought mine as a refurbished model for a lot of the same reasons as yourself- I'm a student doing a computer arts course. I really like mine- it's been my only machine since August last year. On power saver, it stays cool enough to use in your lap, although it does heat up if you do something more intensive.

It runs Adobe CS4 with no problems. I've also gotten 3dsMax and Maya (2009 versions) to run, although I've not experimented a great deal.

The soundcard isn't great if I'm honest, but will do. Would probably be fine with a better interface though.

    Hope that helps.

How did you order an SXPS 13? They have pretty much been pulled from most sites. I would hold off on the 1340 purchase since a refresh is likely to occur with better processors.

They've been pulled from the sites, but you can still get in and order one (I went through google shopping) but it works if you go to the direct link for configuring. And I would have held off, but theres a post in the thread about a possible refresh stating dell is just pulling it and releasing an new 13" later this fall which is too late for me.

I love my SXPS 13. I have it fully loaded and apart from Dell's Customer Service being appalling l am very happy with the hardware.

Well thats not good. are you running vista or windows 7? and what are your other specs.

Thanks for the answers so far. Its starting to ease my mind a little bit as it seems the problems arent as widespread as i first thought.

Worth saying that I wouldn't have paid full price for it- buying a refurb one (as new) from a 3rd party retailer saved me a couple of hundred pounds if I recall correctly.

Hmm... Might be worth it to cancel then. There's an xps 1330 in the outlet with near identical specs for 600 less. It sounds like those have a lot fewer problems, and the savings wouldn't hurt either

My opinion: its sucks! too many lil things that add up to big problems.
