I loaded up GPU-Z and saw max read for my GT 435m to be 0.96v. Unfortunately MSI Afterburner won't allow for adjustments of voltages.
I'm looking at the options to edit the vBIOS to drop voltages to low 0.90s on the 435m.

Edit: Nvm, none of the current BIOS editors work with the 435m.

3dmark06 does not stress a GPU, at all really.

Run OCCT or Furmark to find the truth.

Might be going off track, but

    in terms of performance,

would a 2GB GT 435M be better than the 1GB GT 420M if we are strictly assessing the space as in 2GB vs 1GB.

Nope. Neither card will ever utilize that much memory.
Look at the desktop performance cards in the GTX Fermi series, the midrange one has like 768mb because even it wouldn't be fast enough to fill the 1gb size of the high end GPU.

It comes down to speed, the 420m/435m are not fast enough to fill the whopping gigabytes of space they come with. 512mb would be a more realistic frame buffer maximum for these cards. Plus these cards utilize DDR3 RAM, instead of GDDR5, so they're also using slower RAM to make matters worse.

I OC mine a 700mhz clock speed and 1400mhz shader.

Max temp I got playing Splinter cell: conviction was 78.0c. Is this a decent temperature? Everything was low setting with 30-45fps.

Why won't my overclock save over sessions? If I reboot my computer, it reverts back to default... I'm using the NVIDIA control panel to do it, RivaTuner won't let me OC it.

When you close the NVIDIA control panel you should get a prompt saying "load settings on startup? yes/no". If you hit yes it will load your custom settings every time. You can also create a profile and hit ctrl + alt + h to quickly switch between profiles.

My ceiling core speed is 780 MHz. It can run at 760-770 MHz, but the core temperature goes above 80° C so I just leave it parked at 720 MHz to keep it under that temperature.

Still isn't working. It still won't load my custom profile... I don't get it. >.>

Did you have an unstable OC? Sometimes when you overclock your GPU too high it will downclock and lock itself until you reboot.

CTRL + ALT + M to monitor which profile you are using and see if it changes after you've loaded another profile.

I can OC my GT 420M easily to 700/900 for most games and temps stay around 70C with no issues.
Playing Black OPS I get artifacts when I OC above 650/900, temps stay the same around 70C.
Really happy with this as I can get a min OC of GT 435M speeds :)

    black ops med-high with 2xaa 1080p 28-40fps
    very fluid without fraps!
Idle temps are like 40-48c range!
    Overall gr8 laptop!

Could someone post GPU temperatures after FurMark 1.8.2 session (10-20 minutes; with Xtreme burning mode, displacement mapping and postfx all on)?

My 420m overclocked to 650/900 goes to 80C.

Is there a way to use the intel graphics instead of the gpu for a external screen? Graphic performance is now less when I use an external screen.

    435m settings:
    800/960/1600

FurMark 1.8 for 20 minutes on xtreme burn. 12555 FurMark points.

Max GPU temp 93 C for about a minute then dropped down to and stayed at 88 C for the rest of the test.

I also started a new thread dedicated to both 420m and 435m OC'ing both for people looking to buy so they can drop in and compare the two. I'll post this there as well.

first, download an overclocking program. i used nvidia inspector so you can find it here: nVidia Inspector 1.9.5.5 | hw-lab.com

extract the files to some place and run nvidiaInspector.exe
a window/program will popup displaying information on your card.

click on "Show Overclocking" on the bottom right and hit Yes

Now u can move the sliders to overclock.
the GPU clock may be locked so to overclock that, just move the Shader Clock.
move it in increments of 10-20Mhz if you are new to overclocking. when you have a clock set, hit Apply Clock & Voltage. and that should be it. test out the clocks in a game to see if it's stable.

the nice thing about nvidia inspector is that u can create a Clocks shortcut which lets u create a shortcut on the desktop to apply the overclocking since once u restart, the card will go back to default clocks.
