Hi, i'm using an acer 4750ZG with i3 2350m, gt 540m 1GB, my VGA bios 70.08.39.00.07, can i update it and how?
I oc my gpu to 830/860/1660 and have a little shuttering, drop to 820/860/1640 its work fine, i seen many people in here can get higher clock than me.
And why my memory clock is max at 960?

you mean update the Vbios from the card?

mmm, it may be posible by hacking the main, jkbuha updated his nvidia bios at his 15z laptop, however I did not had luck on my xps 15, after testing with different versions, the device was unable to init in windows, only fix was to rollback to the stock BIOS, however I has been able to mod the stock bioses to alter the voltage.

I also dont see to much benefits updating the vbios, and it is too much headache, so my advice is dont worry about it ;)

    Thanks for advice.
But why i cannot reach higher clock?, only 820/860/1640, higher will result unstable gameplay, glitch, but temp still ok, not get above 65 celsius.
    I'm using Noctua NT-H1 thermal paste :)
Oh and now i'm using MSI Afterburner, with this i can oc memory clock up to 1040, with nvidia system tool its only 960.

because not all GPUs handle OC the same, you can try with different voltage settings to see if you can push a little more, however it seems you already found your max OC ^^

Maximum OC dependes at games. I think best game for testing stability is NFS Most wante 2012, because there i can push only at 720/840 at my GT540M, but when i´m playing for example far cry 3 it could be a bit higher than 720/840.
BTW I´could only dreaming about that temperature :D, normal temperature with/out OC is 94CPU and 96GPU, f*cking acer´s cooling. Maybe repasting could help but i dont want do that when i have warranty.

Yeah i can play Splinter Cell Conviction and Dirt 2 at 820/860.
94 and 96, are you serious??, what brand and model do you use?, my temp never get higher than 85CPU and 70GPU. Btw i clean dust in cooling system very often :D, and re-paste every 6 month :p

I thought I would share my experience with all of you thus far with my 540m. I have a sony vaio F series. I have been reading numerous articles about the 540ms overclocking ability and that it operates at high temperatures for some people so i decided to test my card out for fun. I downloaded msiburner to oc and I noticed that my gcard with stock settings of my core clock 672 by 900mhz my card was reaching dramatic overheating around 90 celsius. So I embarked on further research and tested and tested over and over again to no avail. I started to monitor than my cpu heat and discovered that my cpu would turn on turboboost and that was what was predominantly overheating my labtop. ThereforeI disabled turboboost iand saw my heat drastically reduced to 48 celsius my guess is when turbo boost on quadcores kicks in you see an fps spike especially with steam powered games do to throttling. My advice is to disable turboboost and under power management set it to 99 percent min and max and than begin to overclock your gpu. Also under power management I set it to scale back my cpu iinstead of kicking on my fan to help keep my computer cooler. I have reached so far a max clock of 820 core 1050 mhz with this method I also am usiing a cooling pad with no aa and running my test on 1280x1024 and I have had no problems yet. I also upgraded my ram since my hynix was a pos to patriot so I now have 16gb instead of 8 goodluck to you all and thanks for your inputs in helping me oc.

The highest stable OC I can get with my GT 540M on my L502x is 780/1560/900 (haven't OC memory as it causes problems). Games like Bioshock and SC2 run okay but run better when I overclock the core to ~800 MHz, the problem here is that after a few minutes of gameplay the game will freeze and the sound will stutter. I can close the game via task manager, sometimes the whole laptop freezes so a forced restart is required.

To compensate for this I used a 1V (3D profile) BIOS, this gave a lot of extra heat (75 - > 80) and hence the fans go crazy. The overclock with this amount of voltage is still the same, anything above 780 is unstable, even with increased voltage.

A friend of mine has the 635M in an ASUS laptop. Her card easily does 800 MHz on the core, can probably do more. With the standard voltage. Temperatures are okay too. Runs Bioshock and SC2 perfectly.

Anything else I could try to get a better core clock? Currently I have reverted back to 0.85V (3D profile).

Thanks for everything you've done with this project and to those who have contributed. :)

I had to re-do my cooling system to get 800mhz stable at 1v. I had to reposition the heatsinks perfectly square and flat on the cpu and gpu with the perfect connection. Then I had to replace my fan which still isn't quite ideal but will work. I am able to game it up no problem only 65C on the gpu when my 2.2Ghz 2720QM is set to 98% which is 2Ghz. That allows for the gpu to stay cool and stable and no fps change usually.

Wow nice. Yeah I've had a look at the main fan (only fan in the computer) its terrible and small. Why did you need to replace it?

I have repasted the GPU and CPU, do you think I could have messed that up? Should I redo it? Any tips for that? I use AS5. When re positioning the heatsinks I just placed them on and tightened the screws in the order given.

What are your temps like? That will determine whether you messed the repaste up or not. How much AS5 did you use as you don't need much, literally about a pea size on the cpu/gpu and then let the pressure from the HS's spread it over the chips.

CPU always maxes at 80 degrees C.

Undervolted GPU reaches around 70 max. Overvolted GPU reaches 78. Both crash around 785+ core.

I would say your temps are fine, when I had my l702x the cpu/gpu temps were about 5c more than yours.

Just today re-pasted with AS5. I see considerable temp drop. IN my case atleast 5-10 c. That too just running furmark after hours of re-pasting. So once AS5 settles after 2-3 days , I think temps might come down further. I also removed the filters (x3) and cleaned the fan and vents. Laptop had a truck load of dust .

Hello everyone, I first found this thread almost two years ago shortly after buying my first M11x R3, I've checked back a few times and I figure it's about time I gave some input.

I've been running my GT540m at 780/960 100% stable and 790/970 75% stable (Depends on length of gaming session and temperature of the room). Temps were usually 75C max but hit 80-82C during long sessions in high room temperatures. I recently found some good deals and bought another M11x R3 and an M11x R2 for my family. I swapped the late model i7-2637m M11x R3 motherboard into my original M11x R3 and got back to overclocking. While the motherboards were out I reapplied AS5 to everything. On a cooling pad I'm getting around 72-75C max and have been able to run 825/1000 in APB Reloaded, but Battlefield 3 taxed the system more and caused texture issues. I'm currently running 800/900 100% stable and will probably push for more core before I try anything with the memory.

That's cool yeah 800mhz core is the Max stable clock at 1v.

About my fan it does 4600rpm and is 0.34a 5v. It wears over the years and only does 80-90% of its 4600 so that goes down to 4100rpm Max. Which simply can't keep it cool and stable at 800mhz and even with it brand new it couldn't achieve stability at 800mhz.

So I bought a fan from another asus laptop that does 0.50a and like 6700rpm. with perfect contact on the heatsinks I get 60-65C at load at 800mhz.

Right now running into stability issues since I'm letting the pwm adjust automatically and it doesn't pull the fan to its peak 6700pm. The pwm signal only allows 4600rpm since it was designed that way. I wish I could re-program the BIOS pwm to go to peak.

Until then I'm gonna mod it so I can disable/ enable pwm for quietness and diasble when gaming. I think the 540m could handle 1000mhz on memory if u can keep the gpu under 70C. With my new 0.50A fan it cools about 25% better than stock.

800mhz is the Max stable clock on the gt540m if ur running at 1v.

    :)

I had to make sure it said 0.50A since it has to be more than the stock fan. The stock fan is 0.34A for me. I had to modify it to work and remove the connector and install my connector. All is well it performs a lot better than the stock fan. I can feel the wind gust about 2 feet off the side of my laptop.

    My Laptop Toshiba P750-157

I managed to get a stable overclock while gaming at 770/1080/1600Mhz with tems as low as 60C.

Really improves the fps in games like BF4/Cod Ghosts.

That's cool I'm back at 0.980v and 750/1500/975 stable in cod ghosts. Still doesn't run that great. Looking to upgrade to a gtx 675 2gb or the gtx 675mx with 4gb of ram. Need to purchase the Eurocom Racer 2.0 with a 2670qm and gtx 675 2gb, 8gb ram, 750gb drive is like 700-800 or call for a discount.

    Hello everyone,

I am looking into a way to overclocking my CPU/GPU and this was the first result I got in Google so I decided to post here..

    I have an Nvidia GeForce GT540 GPU with an i7-2670QM @ 2,2 GHZ and 8GB DDR3 RAM

So my question is how to overclock and what is the maximum OC it can take?

    Hey, I have i5 2410m 6gb DDR3 RAM and 540m 1GB DDR3, i am running stable 810core / 920 Memory
and i have used nvidia system tools 6.06 for overclocking, CoreTemp for monitor CPU temp and GPU-Z to monitor graphics card temps, my cooling was pretty shi*ty and the temps on stock freq was above 90C during load and i was experiencing a lot of throttling, so i have applied the new thermal paste arctic cooling mx-2 + made a little bit more space between ventilation ribs at the bottom of computer and my temps is now 75-78C during full load 810mhz core / 920mhz memory 0.83v idle 0.98v load without any cooling pad , just the original stock FAN which i even cant hear when its spinning at max...and my laptop is Packard Bell TS11-HR, same as Acer Aspire 5755g for example.

Hi, I own an Acer 5830G with GT 540m 2 gb and I want to oc it to get more fps in AC4 but since I upgraded (nearly 10 months ago) from 2xx.xx driver to newer ones and now I'm on 332.21 and gpu cant be overclocked at all without AC4 crashing. I tried several apps including NV sys Tools but all with same results.
Can somebody help me to get my gpu stable in all games with atleast 750mhz oc?

    Thx

With nVidia Tools I'm sitting at a comfortable 830 gpu 960 mem 1660 processor clock....usually when i up the gpu to 840 or so my card will default back to factory.

    Hi, interesting reading.

    Just FYI I have a Samsung RF711 laptop: I7 2670QuadM @ 2.2Ghz, 8GB DDR3 Ram, Nvidia GT540M.

I am playing Dying Light (albeit with all game settings on low and 1600 x 900 - 16:9 res).

    Without any problems.

    I have OC'd my GPU to 1700Mhz (Gpu clock: 850Mhz - Memory: 1050Mhz).

Using: 6.08-nvidia-system-tools from Nvidia. With Driver version: 347.52.

With stock cooling!!! Worth mentioning that I dismantled this laptop to ensure
the heatsink and fans were free from dust and blockages and to apply heatpaste too.

Played Dying Light (released Jan 2015) for 12hrs straight last night without a hitch,
with a decent frame rate, HDMI'd to my 50inch LG LED TV. :0)

Also played Far Cry 4 too, without any problems and good frame rate. But this was without OCing!

    Good graphics card IMO.
