    POLL: Is your M1530 WXGA+ (1440x900) an LG LPLDF00?

    Similar polls:
    1280x800 - http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=211959
    1680x1050 - http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=211961

It seems like there are a fair number of complaints with the WXGA (1280x800) and the WSXGA+ (1680x1050) displays on the M1530. Especially when the screen is not an LG.

But it seems like I haven't seen any (or at least many) M1530 WXGA+ (1440x900) owners with a non-LG screen.
So I thought I'd start this poll.

To check your LCD screen manufacturer on Vista:
    Computer-->Properties-->Device Manager-->Monitors-->Generic PnP Monitor-->Properties-->Details-->Hardware Ids

For the 1440x900, "LPLDF00" is an LG screen.

Neat I'd like to know too. I'm guessing those with LG are satisfied with the quality, but how about those with samsung? They can't be all bad can they?

It's nice to be one of the "lucky" ones. I wonder if it's just random who gets an LG or perhaps based on the amount you spend? Could it be that the cheaper configs get crap screens while the more expensive systems, get LG...?

I guess so. The overall issue is: The M1530's are being shipped with screens from different manufacturers. Which one you initially get seems to be a roll of the dice. Based on others' comments it sounds like Dell will give you a screen from the manufacturer that you desire after you receive your laptop and complain/explain to a rep. It sounds like most LG screen owners are content.

The point of this poll is:
I have/had a hunch that the majority of WXGA+ M1530s are being shipped with LG screens. I made this theory based on what I saw as a lack of complaints in these forums from these specific owners.
I proceeded to order my own m1530 and got an LG, and then a fellow poster did the same... supporting my hunch.

The poll hasn't been taken by enough people yet, but so far my theory doesn't seem to be holding water.

I've received two M1530 WXGA+ systems. The first has an LG and the second has a CPT (which hasn't been mentioned much here). The LG is significantly better. Since I can't vote twice, I'm stumped on how to vote.

I was wondering if there might be some correlation with this too.

There might even be a correlation to other things, like what hard drive you buy or what software... maybe even website order vs. phone order vs. EPP.
But it would probably be too difficult to figure out... at least with a simple poll alone.

What these forums really need is a Dell insider!

Currently, if we take away the third voting choice, it looks like 80% of M1530 owners are getting LG screens.

Of course, a poll like this has potential to be inaccurate for a number of reasons.

If the poll applies to you.... VOTE!

I actually wanted to make a 6 choice poll to ask ALL M1530 owners which display they got... WXGA:LG, WXGA:non-LG, WXGA+:LG, WXGA+:non-LG, WSXGA+:LG, and WSXGA+:non-LG

The point would be to see if people are having better luck getting LG screens with a certain resolution.

But polls can only have 5 choices max.

Maybe I should make the same poll for the other two resolutions.

The part numbers for the Samsung screen have expired and there is no ETA on when they will be restocked. However, I cant say that you will recieve the LG screen if order it or get the screen replaced. Hopefully we will see this particular model of samsung LCD not being ordered anymore. Samsung generally makes great LCD's.

apparently 3-5day shipping=2day shipping to dell, and it says it'll be here tomorrow. not complaining though :D
glad to hear that it's a high chance of me getting a LG lcd.
ill vote tomorrow, or when i receive mine.

    *edit*
    yup its a LG!
also, i looks from the network tab under the task manager that the lan is 1gbs. if im not mistaken... thats gigabit.

Huh, this is the right thread for me!
I posted on DVMXPS1530 thread but this is more specific!
    I am happy!
    QUESTION, vital importance question:
has the WXGA+ LG screen got good viewing angles? How good are they?
Let me explain: I am buying an XPS 1530 in change of another notebook where the SEC was a nightmare.
1440 res. is the best for me. And I like bright displays (especially if glossy, as the more bright it is the less I see any reflection and I can use it anywhere).
On Dell site I see that WXGA+ is 250nit, while WSXGA+ is 200.
I know that in real life things depend on brand and model, and if both are LG, possibly both will be bright enough.
Is this true for viewing angles too? Are LG WXGA+ viewing angles as good as LG WSXGA+ ones, or at least good enough to make someone happy with them?
Considering that WXGA+ is 100 euro cheaper, and it is brighter (is it?), if you all tell me that i will surely be happy with its viewing angles (talking of LG one), I will be VERY GLAD!
but do not tell me that just to make me happy ;)

Very interesting question from Sir Joe, if someone could answer that would be very appreciated... and if the wxga+ screen is indeed bright and the chane to have an LG is better, the choice between wxga+ and wsxga+ is getting even clearer for me.

I ordered a wxga+ which is already on the shipping, I'll vote when I get it. I spent close to 1.9k$ on it through the Dell epp program, we'll see.

Mmm, as far as I know there are 3 models of WXGA, 3 of WXGA+, and 2 of WSXGA+. On each res. there is an LG. Yes, it is possible that for some reason Dell is putting LG more than others on WXGA+, but it is not official. What makes you think so?

    There are 3 polls running:
    1280x800 - http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=211959
    1440x900 - http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=210649
    1680x1050 - http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=211961

Look at the results so far. It seems to say that you are more likely to get an LG display if you choose a 1440x900 res M1530.
You are absolutely right though... "It is not official"

To be perfectly honest I got a LPLDF00 screen too for my 1520 and I think, whilst it is much better than my previous samsung screens, it is still quite "dirty" and shiny. Viewing angles are also terrible

I initially had an LG, and I voted. I cannot vote anymore, but I want to tell that my LG, generally good, had a fault in a part of the screen, and it has benn changed. The new is Samsung, no faults, but the general quality is absolutely bad, Really really really bad. And it is the third Samsung I get by Dell, and all of them where really bad, much but much worse than that LG (which anyway was not so wonderfull as people say. It is just good, normal, standard. It is not the LG to be specially good, it seems so wonderfull only compared to the Samsung, but it is the Samsung which is completely substandard. No viewing angle, especially vertical ones. Very bad retroillumination (few and not uniform). Very grainy, it is disturbing. And whiete is no white at all, it is gray... Really a bad display.
