Hello,
I just bought an XPs 15 9550. I want to put a standard SSD sata drive in to augment the storage of the m2 storage I purchased with the unit. The bracket is there but not any SSD sata cabling. I see the part number for a previous model but I don't know if that is what I need. If you are 100% sure of the right part number for the new Skylake XPS 15 sata cabling just released within the past month I would greatly appreciate it.

The following info was posted in the Dell XPS 15 with Infinity Display (2015):

Thanks - when you actually get the cable for the Skylake model of the XPS please post a photo. I'd really like to make sure it is the right part before I order.
-
Why don't you go first?
Sure, I'll post an update if/when I receive the parts.
Also, it seems the "W140D" part number was incorrect:
I think I'll give "XDYGX" a try. -
Thanks - I did order the XDYGX - not sure when it will arrive. Anyone know if the sata controller is type II or III?
-
Dell told me it wasn't in stock when I tried to order and said they'd notify me when it was available. When did you manage to buy it?
As for the interface, I'd be very surprised if it wasn't SATA III. -
I ordered it - still in production
Was supposed to be here yesterday.

Delayed again until December.

Delayed again in January

I ordered the part about two weeks back, was given an eta of 22 Jan however received it yesterday. Works perfectly with my 1tb Samsung evo 850 ssd.

You received the part XDYGX? Ordered this number and received it?

Yep, I'm in Australia - the invoice had this on it:
Item No. Description Unit Price
CPA-XDYGX CBL,HD,SATA 7MM,9550/5510 $10.00mistakenot likes this. -
Okay. Now, not to be a pest, but: How did you order it? Through the online parts website? (I hope) What was it described as on the invoice? HDD Interposer? No one at Dell seems to understand that term. Thanks so much for your help! (Mate!)
-
It wasn't listed on the parts website. I called my NBD support #, gave them the part # and link to this thread. They investigated/confirmed part was correct for system model, then raised a job with the sales team.
Never once called it an interposer, just stick with part number and describe it as a proprietary sata cable for the hdd/ssd chassis to motherboard.
See previous post for what the invoice listed as - same as the invoice pic someone posted earlier in this thread.
Good luck!mistakenot likes this. -
Did you need to order any rubber drive bumpers to the 2.5" fit in the caddy OK? Also looking at doing the same with a 500Gb Samsung SSD but saw on reddit people needing rubber bumpers.
I'm in New Zealand so part will probably come form AU too and thinking of ordering this laptop soon and really want the i7 model but dual drives. -
Yes, you do need the sleeves or spacers whatever they're calling them. I got a pair directly from Dell and another third party pair from eBay. My Samsung EVO needed the sleeves to fit snugly, but at least in my case it seemed even too snug. It was a bit of struggle to get the drive in without using too much force. I used the third party set on another machine with a Seagate SSHD and had to trim the hell out of them to get it to fit.
-
Cool thanks! Any chance do you know the dell part number for the sleeves as well?

I'm so frustrated with Dell, that I just canceled my order for the $1499 config of the XPS 15 (i7, 256 GB m.2 SSD).
First it has an available drive bay, but a $1500 machine doesn't come with the damn parts to mount the drive? Who uses a cable for a SATA drive these days anyway?
Second, I've been trying for 12 hours to buy the parts to mount my 2.5" SSD, and they keep telling me the parts aren't available. So I say, how the hell can they not be available when you're building the damn machines on the factory floor? Go out on the floor and get one!
I've had it. This is the second time I've tried to give my money to Dell, and they keep refusing to take it. No more, I'm done. -
Personally, for me the machine was worth it. I bought two of the very same configuration almost six months ago. For the record the SATA cable is actually an adapter with a short cable attached which is then attached to the MB. The part number is: XDYGX----and don't let them tell you otherwise. I had to call several times before I finally got a rep. who was willing to help. The configuration you want does come with the HDD mounting cage, but not the sata adapter or the sleeves that must be mounted on the HDD so it doesn't rattle around. That part number is: 3XYT5. You'll need two (2) of them.
If you change your mind, be ready to persist through several issues which are discussed at length in two other forum areas here. -
I've already canceled my order and bought another Lenovo. There's no excuse for selling a $1500 machine that has an available drive bay and then not having the parts to mount the stupid drive (especially after the machine has been out for 6 months!). I swear I don't know how Dell stays in business. Their tech support is the absolute worst.Last edited: Apr 21, 2016

Okay,
we asked for pictures as proof for those who did buy that got damn sata cable. Before and after please. Pictures or it didn't happen. -
Okay, if I wasn't so sympathetic about the way Dell treats all of us, I would have been offended on behalf of all of us. But, here is the proof you requested so nicely.....
