So my new xps 16 1647 arrived 4 days ago to replace my broken laptop. As luck would have it i've been experiencing some problems with freezing, lag, and a blue screen. Usually, when i am watching videos online, the screen will lag and then display a message on a blue screen about an error with the display driver (can't remember what it says though). This has occurred about 5 times already. Occasionally a pop up message from the task bar will tell me that the display driver has failed bu and recovered as well. I've downloaded the display drivers off the dell website and reinstalled them but this hasn't seemed to work as it still lags and then restarts. Anybody else having this problem or a fix?

Anyone else getting this? Gosh.. will it EVER end with these!!!!!? -

Hmm, what about video card drivers? Are you running the latest from Dell or from ATI. The latest iteration from either source might also help.
-
I would also suggest removing the Creative X-FI Soundblaster software if you have it installed. Uninstalling that program and updating my flash (I was using 10.1 beta at the time, but 10.1 official is out now) fixed any lock-ups and slowdowns I had on my system when I received it back in March. Soundblaster tends to cause more problems than it's worth.

usually its caused by some poorly written drivers from your external usb devices, you need to remove drivers instead of adding them. its a compatibility problem not a video card fault.

My 1645 has been freezing, too. It'll do it a couple times a week. I haven't been able to figure out what's causing it; sometimes it'll happen when I'm not even doing anything, such as reading an article on the web. Suddenly the mouse will stop working, then I'll notice it's not the mouse, because even the second hand of the clock isn't moving. Everything will simply be frozen and the only way to recover is to hold the power button down until the system powers down.
Any idea how I could possibly determine the culprit? -

I do have lots of BSOD.I did a clean install using the Reinstallation DVD.
During installation process again BSOD, restarted and works fine but still blue screen comes up without having any software installed.
A few times while surfing suddenly BSOD and all laptop was making so loud noise from the side of laptop where is plugged the adapter.
Three times reinstaled the system and is the same
I will try to contact Dell support.
...found the reason of the BSOD, Crucial 2x4gb, are faulty. Back with samsung 2x2gb (glad i did not sell it) and here you go, no BSOD at all.
BurnInTest & Memtest86 test faild, samsung passed all the way.
I formated the hdd, three times installed the OS, was crashing before finalised the installation. now it is working fine.
I will try to send back and get refund.
