If anyone was curious about anything. This one came defective, but the pictures/external hardware should all be good/there. It's returned now so I can't take any more.![]()
If you want the full resolution (8 megapixels) of a particular image because Photobucket butchered the quality (six hour upload), just let me know.
Thought I'd make a dedicated topic to make searches a bit easier:

Might help for some aspects. My old 1640 on the left, 1645 on the right. -
Damn it...try now, it's public.
Thanks for the pic: that is pretty interesting. Nice to see that XPS 1645 needs a little less cooling overall, considering the loss of the northbridge or whatever.

Really? Oh, I didn't notice that..
Yeah, the touchpad is much cooler on my 1645 versus my 1640. -
thanks for those pictures

Just a quick question can a 1640 MB support an i7 chip? or are MBs different for each CPU?
-
No, won't work. Same socket, different chipsets (which are incompatible).
Like, it'll physically fit, but good luck trying to get it to turn on. The XPS 1640 motherboard uses a northbridge/southbridge while the i7's only require a single-chip. It sounds like it might work, but it doesn't. No one's tried, but it's....well....accepted, lol. -

I just made the whole account public.
First post updated.

When I got my SXPS 1645 one year ago, I was wondering if someone has figured out how to overclock or undervolt mobile i7 CPUs since Intel removed VID and FID, so no more RMClock, or socket things like I did on my hp nc6000. I found nothing helpful.
And yesterday by curiosity I googled it again, it turns out someone overclocked i7 on Asus laptops with SetFSB. So theoretically speaking, all we need to do is send PLL chip model number (clock generator name) to developper of SetFSB and see if he can figure out a way to support SXPS 1645 or not.
I looked into photos of motherboard taken when I added second HDD to my laptop, and can't find PLL chip within them (side covered by keyboard). Not willing to reopen the case, I wonder if you could tell me model numbers of chips around CPU socket and chipset, or send me directly your 8M pixel photos. I would really appreciate your help.
Thanks a lot!
Here is the post of people who had OC done on asus:

Thanks a lot for newly uploaded photos!
Since I can't find any chip like PLL in your album, I opened the case, and found it under black UWB sticker, PLL model number is SLG8SP585V. And after a little search, I found posts quoting mails from author of SetFSB, abo, saying this chip couldn't be supported by SetFSB.
Alienware M17x-R2:
"Hi Khalid-san,
Hmm..., SLG8SP585V doesn't have the function that changes FSB.
To my regret, I can not support it.
abo"

Clevo W870CU
"Hi Max-san, Thanks for the SLG8SP585V datasheet.
Bad news, SLG8SP585V doesn't have the function that changes FSB.
Unfortunately, I cannot support it.
abo"

Datasheet also indicates that it supports only 100MHz and 133MHz CPU clock output and it is not selectable like SLG8SP513V used on Samsung R70.
So it seems to be over on the try to OC SXPS1645 with SetFSB. If anyone found any clue on oc please share it.
