When I did a clean install of Vista on my computer, I must have wiped out the program that plays the Blu-ray discs, because it doesn't do anything when I put a disc in. Is there a way I can download this program again, or does anyone recommend another program to use instead? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Anyone? I surely can't be the only person who did a clean Vista install on a computer with a Blu-ray player. I tried to go ask on the message boards at Dell.com, but they won't send me a confirmation email for my account (even though I put the right email address, waited eight hours, and told them to send the email three times) so I can't log in to the website.
I think the program is called "PowerDVD", but I can't find a way to download it on the Dell website, only updates for it. The computer also did not come with discs for any software except McAfee (is that normal?), so I can't install it without downloading something. -
Try the search here it realy works your coputer had a card with the manuals that tels you to go to https://smartsource.dell.com/Web/Welcome.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fweb%2fUserForms%2fRegisterSystem.aspx%3frs%3d1&rs=1 to dowload the software for your computer
Also call Dell and tell them to send you the install discs for
power dvd
web cam central
roxio
faceial reconition
they like to play dumb when you ask for them just keep asking till they give them -

Thanks for the reply! I had to dig through my recycling to find that little piece of paper... Next time I'll know better to keep everything. I clicked the link, but I'm stuck on the registration page because it says to click "Allow" when the prompt appears, but no prompt ever appears at the top of the page. When the page loads it asks me if I want to display only the content that was "delivered securely", to which I click "No", but it still doesn't work. It doesn't work if I click "Yes" either. I wonder if this is connected to my not receiving a confirmation email from Dell.com. Perhaps my computer is blocking content from that site for some reason?

Keep your browser open, so you don't have to log in again, but close the tab where it looks like it is hung on registration. Open up a new tab and go back to the smartsource.dell.com link. Rinse and repeat and eventually you'll end up at My Download Locker.

The site is verry unstable it only works some of the times thats why you need to call and get the discs sent to you
-
Yeah nothing I do is making the prompt appear, even though I deleted temporary internet files and reloaded the page several times.
-
The website works fine on my old laptop (but I can't download anything on it because it has to be my new one), but the prompt doesn't appear on my new computer using IE 8 or FireFox. Does that sound like an issue with my computer, the website, or the browser?

BioGeek, WHAT IS YOUR AVATAR AND WHY IS IT LOOKING RIGHT AT ME

Australian Lethocerus sp. I found.

I found when I make my text size larger than the default that some web page buttons aren't visible. If I change text back to 100 percent or if I can get lucky and press the Tab key a time or two and hit spacebar I may click that button.
-
I normally keep mine on 120%, but the website is still acting up even if I put it back on 100%. I think the problem isn't that something is out of view due to the zoom level, but rather that little thing that says a pop-up has been blocked just isn't working. I think it's a problem with the Dell website not being compatible with Internet Explorer 8 or something.
-
it works with explorer 8 but not with firefox are you using any other firewall software other than windows firewall if so try disableing it when it asks to display only the content that was delivered securely click no then the bar at top should appear then insal the active x also window firewall will pop up click alow then it will search for your sevice tagnumber this is were it normaly stops working for a lot of pepole you have to keep reloadig and try again if it stops at geting the active x try lowering your security level also try clearing your cookies and internet histery

I have Avira on my computer, and even after I deactivated it and lowered the security level on IE, the website still didn't work. It does behave a bit differently when I try to load the page, however, because now it flashes some sort of animation for a fraction of a second that says "Examining your computer please wait". After it disappears, nothing happens. I deleted and reinstalled the IE add-on and that didn't help either. I managed to get a screen shot while the animation flashed:

If you let Dell know you can't access My Dell Downloads they will ship out the media right away. Think I got the disks next day.

I have the PowerDVD but I'm having trouble playing the blu ray. The PowerDVD program comes up but there is no play button on the screen or anything. Anybody know what I can do to get my blu ray to work?
-
Do the buttons on the touch panel have an effect on it?
-
only the speaker buttons work on PowerDVD. The movie should automatically play right? Maybe I have to update it?

I bought the new xmen wolverine blu ray disc to test the blu ray drive and a issue here to. popped in the disc . powerdvd wanted to update ,install a patch.. did both.. restarted pc..played the disc.. the trailers played well.. even when the movie started the the 20th century fox played well.. and then once the marvel logo started.. distortion started .. it was pretty bad..i moved a few chapters later and still the same issue.. got pissed off.. played the disc in a regular samsung blu ray player connected to a tv and the movie played perfectly.. contact dell support again.. he wanted me to install mediadirect 4.7 when i did that it threw me an error " mediadirect BDPack needed" the dell rep could not find that.. i could not find it from google... installed powerdvd 9.1 trial version ... same result... bummer again...

BioGeek - Great thread (minus your horrid avatar - which hurts my eyes!). I was irritated at Dell when my 1640 arrived and it did not have Roxio or PowerDVD CD's. Then I saw your thread and went to the Dell site, changed my default system from a 2001 C600
, and after five or six tries, was able to download both and burn them to CD's. I wound up needing to rebuild mine factory drive (well, actually, I imaged the factory Seagate onto a WD drive) because some MORON, some idiot used my computer to go to some pron sites
and it wouldn't boot anymore.

I still can't access the My Downloads site at all... Eventually I just said "F@#% it" and downloaded some other Blu-ray playing software.
-
I am still not sure if powerdvd plays dual layer blu ray.. -
