I just recently got a Playstation 3 but I'm living at home (opposed to my college apartment) and my HDTV is there but I really want to test out my new system. Has anyone hooked up their M1530 to the PS3 using HDMI? I am curious as to whether or not it'd work. I wouldn't want to open the box and all if I still cannot use it. That's just asking for a dust magnet.

The HDMI on the m1530 is an output, not an input. You'd need a digital tuner/video capture device (either by USB or expresscard) on your 1530 to use it. If you're really set on it, make sure you get one that won't lag. Some capture devices have huge lag times, and some have very small ones.

Grr thats really annoying. Thank you for informing me of this. I really would just get a small HDTV over a tuner card... those seem to be more of a hassle than worth my money.
-
Can someone recommend a device that can do this?
-
A standalone monitor with HDMI or component input. For convenience you may prefer integrated speakers or a headphone output.
-
That's somewhat less than convenient though!
-
Of course.
It would be nice if you could use the display of a laptop as display device for anything! -- But I don't know of a laptop that could accommodate that. Perhaps you could disassemble your computer and remove the LCD connection and make a custom connector that would allow you to plug in hdmi.
LOL - That might be more convenient.
Seriously though... I have seen some portable dvd players that will accept video input. -- A projector would be fun and cool. Could always use a series of adapters and an old school CRT ... -

It would save money for getting a new monitor for college. Who knows, maybe they will come up with new tech that has enhanced port detection that can serve as both an output or an input. Though for the M1530's purposes... yeah, no can do.

Why not get a nice 24" LCD monitor with HDMI input? Then you can use it for playstation and as an external display for your laptop...
Here is a nice samsung that would work:

Or, you can go with a cheapie 21.6" and save some cash!

I'm using a 20" LCD Monitor for both my Xbox 360 and my PC. You can easily press a button and switch between sources on most monitors.
-
The 24" HD Gateway monitors are nice. HDMI & Component & DVI & VGA. Other option is to get any rez monitor and x2vga ( http://www.x2vga.com/). This is assuming you don't want a capture card to do the work (you'll need one specifically designed for console gaming or lag-free playback).
-
Thank you for the suggestions. I kind of want a 19" screen at largest due to the size of my room, but Gateway seems to only have 22". I do not want a capture card, as my main intention is just to have a smaller screen to play my PS2/Wii/PS3 on while I am at living at home and not in my college apartment.
The gateway I looked at is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824113011 I see there are component outputs but where is the plug for the white and yellow cables?
That x2vga thing looks cool but I'm a bit hesitant of buying something I never even heard of. -
That gateway does not have any speakers... No reason to connect audio cables if it has no speakers!
-
Good luck finding a dvr app that shows the video in real time, youll most likely have 2-3 second lag time in everything you find.
-
Component Input = Red, Green, Blue (Video Only)
Composite Input = Yellow (Video) - Red and White for Stereo Audio (Left and Right Channel.
Keep in mind you will want something for speakers either internal or external to whichever monitor you end up with.
Best,
Nathan -
In any case, you won't need x2vga with that monitor, in fact, you'll probably get a better picture through the component connection. As posted by emclo, you don't have yellow and red RCA connections because the monitor has no speakers. Your audio will have to be played with something else (external speakers, for example). -

This seems to be a better alternate. I am trying to find an all-in-one sort of because my room has extremely limited space, and buying eternal speakers just seem unnecessary. I'm no audiophile by any means. -
Im guessing they are for a dorm. An excellent choice would be the Dell 22 incher. The cost is less and it has built in webcam and everything.

no actually its for my apartment at home. lol. at my college apartment i have a 42" that i hook use, even as a monitor!
