I just received an XPS14Z (i5-2450, 6GB, 500GB HDD, Intel Graphics). Happy with it except for one thing - the Ambient Light Sensor for the KB backlight is not working.

The keyboard backlight functions fine - I can enable/disable/dim etc using Windows Mobility Center. For some reason though, the Ambient Light Sensor Control for the keyboard backlight does not seem to work even though the checkbox is enabled through Windows Mobility Center.

Please note that this is not a control for the screen brightness. Under Mobility Center, for KB backlight, there is a checkbox for the sensor to activate the keyboard backlight - NOT the display backlight.

I have the latest BIOS (A03, even newer than the Dell Website which lists A02) and the latest version of Quickset. As far as I understand, Quickset runs within Windows Mobility Center, and is not a standalone program.

Isn't this sensor supposed to automatically turn on the keyboard backlighting when enabled (in low light)? Does it work this way for any of you who have this model?

When I go under Control Panel and list the sensors - there are none listed at all. I don't know if this is a clue or not, as I thought that Quickset handles this sensor. I'm close to being stumped on this one. Any clues out there?

Any and all suggestions are appreciated! I'm not sure why this isn't working.
