Hello everyone I am new User here !!!

So I have really no idea I am posting in right section or not but anyway

I need help the question is Can I install windows xp professional on my Laptop

My Laptop is Dell xps Studio 1640

I have tried many times but the problem is it say that I need to firmware it can you give me advice how can I do it Plaese help Thank you fot advice !

 

Why can't you install it? What sort of errors are you getting? Is this just a matter of you not setting the SATA operation to ATA?

 

Dude I am installing it by USB flash disk , so when I go to BIOS I changed the boot I put first boot is USB right ? Do you know what does it mean "firmware" ? I think I need to do that I mean Firmware !

If you know how to do it please replay me and tell me what kind of program I need !

 

there is a special process for putting xp on the xps's

I had to go thru this pain a couple years ago for a friend

got it working fine, took a bit of effort tho

My friend I want to ask you if I install after windows xp will it be some error on my laptop ?

What do you think should I install windows xp or not ? because I Love winXP then win7 sux tell me your advice !!?

 

also just a guess but 'firmware' could very well be that during install xp needs firmware to continue reading off the usb drive and since it isn't installed yet drivers won't auto install for the usb drive

you may have to find the xp driver for the usb drive, specific or generic and load via floppy or cd during the windows xp install, ack !

yes you set the boot order to usb first

I highly recommend you do this all via cd drive.....

 

You don't need any firmware updates. There are "proper" ways of placing the XP installation files on a USB drive such that the USB drive remains bootable. How did you set yours up and why don't you just use a CD?

 

if you love xp and hate the 7 then yeah go for it

btw you used ultraiso to burn the xp install to usb ? or cd ?

Dude I don't have windows xp in cd I just downloaded it from torrent file's format is ISO so I need to burn that ISO to USB , But I have dont it already so but the problem is I can't install it !

 

The problem is this --------------->

"INF file txtsetup.sif is currupt or missing . status 18.
Setup cannot continue press any key to exit"

What does it mean ?

 

as you see I can not press install button what's the problem plz tell me ?

 

dude you can't install xp with a os loaded (you have 7 or vista in the background lol) it has to be done from the boot 'cd' mode, if you are booting to the usb and the xp install won't work you need to sort out whats on the usb drive, as to the xp install files, how you put them on there, making the usb drive bootable as a windows install

unless someone else chimes in with good info here on your situation.....google is your friend
