Ok Dell is making me mad now. I had this plugged in but no charging issue and I called, they said it was the MOBO or the AC. So the guy came today and put in a new MOBO and used a new AC, but it still won't charge.
So he called Dell and they said it had to be the battery (even though we don't get the light 1/3/5 indication on the battery meter), and that since I was out of the 1 year battery warranty I would have to pay.
Well here is the thing, I have a freaking 4 year warranty on this thing, and it is barely over a year old and the battery already failed? WTH is up with that? Also, the guy said my battery warranty expired in March, but I didn't even place the order until June and I didn't get the computer until July 18 or even later. And they won't approve my battery replacement, they said if I called before the end of July (like 2 days earlier) I would be able to. This is ridiculous.

Yes I had this problem a couple months back too. When I called Dell they first thought it was the AC but since I know another person with this same laptop I had already checked and confirmed it was not that. Then they told me it was either the MOBO or the battery and that they would send out a tech to replace one or both. It ended up just needing a new battery and that fixed the problem.
I also had the tech tell me after the battery was replaced that it was a good thing I didn't need to replace the MOBO because sometimes vista blows up after the replacement.
Fortunately I had called with 9 days left before the end of my 1st of 4 yrs of warranty and didn't have to pay to replace the battery. They really need to tell people that batteries only come with 1 year of warranty regardless of purchasing extended. -
If I drop it and break it can I get accidental damage to cover it? I have that for 4 years.
-
Im not sure if that would cover it or not. I suppose if it was so broken that they had to replace the whole computer instead of just parts it would, but that of course would require some major damage.

a 4 year warranty only covers the computer. the battery comes with a stanard one year warranty and if you pay more you can get up to a 3 year battery potection. batterys for dell seem to die after one year for some reason. your best bet is to buy one from ebay. dell is very picky when it comes to the battery. good luck

You don't want to do that anyways, do you???
Think this thru....That is severe & wrong.
Why don't you go about it a right way, like going thru Unresolved Issues...Tech Support..and explain what happened...**You already have it detailed out pretty well above. I would assume you could get a new battery that way!

I will try the unresolved issues. Nothing more can really hurt.
Edit: If I have to get an ebay battery, should I get 9 or 6, and should I get this one that looks like a real Dell for $100-9 cell/$80-6 cell ( http://cgi.ebay.com/BRAND-NEW-Genui...QQptZLHQ5fDefaultDomainQ5f0QQsalenotsupported)
or should I get one of the knock off looking ones that are $55-9 cell/$40-6 cell -
I see, it was confusing..because Accidental (Complete Care) is only for your Laptop *for accidents* and when you stated *dropping it & it breaking*...
Just try that Unresolved Issues Link I attached for you! You never know..stay positive, and you could very well end up with the resolve that you want, as a customer!

I also hate to buy a new battery and have it not fix the issue, especially if I buy a battery from ebay. If I buy from Dell and it doesn't fix, then they will have to do something to fix the issue eventually. But I really don't see what else it could be. -
buy one from dell and if that fixes the problem you could always return it and then buy one on ebay.
Plugged in, not charging - MOBO didn't fix now my battery is out of warranty
