Are you returning your XPS 1645?
1. Yes, I am returning it or already returned it.
2. Yes, unless the throttling problem is fixed.
3. I will keep it and use Throttlestop until DELL fixes the problem.
4. I love it, I will keep it either way.

Happy with mine running ThrottleStop with a 130W adapter. Runs everything I want it to run at very good/excellent framerates, I couldn't complain with the system.
-
The only complaint I have about the system is the whole throttling issue. Otherwise, I really like this laptop. I've got a 130W adapter on order ($25!), and that with throttlestop will make this laptop as good as I expected it to always be. Everything you buy comes with a trade-off. You can spend more on one component at the expense of another component or deal with this laptop's quirks versus another one's quirks, and I found that this one is the best fit for me. The size, weight, hardware, build quality is what I'm looking for. I can nitpick at things here and there, but overall I don't think I'd be more satisfied with another laptop. It actually is really dumb that we have to spend extra money (not everyone was lucky enough to get dell to send them a free adapter
) and time to get the thing to perform up to spec, but once that is taken care of, I don't have any other complaints. And that's my little rant.

This throttling issue is never noticed until I guess when you encode video. Gaming rarely uses all 8 cores to the max, neither do any of the basic programs such as Word, etc. For the average user, throttling occurs only when benching.
I'm gonna keep this because this is the smallest laptop with an i7-820QM and because it's so powerful. -
ill wait for dell to get a fix, as they are going to release a new bios again. but even tho if the bios doesnt work, ill keep my laptop.

I'm in the process of returning/exchanging my 1645. Dell counter-offered my request for refund with a "build a replacement system" offer. So I sent them a XPS13 fully loaded. We'll see what they say. It's only about $180 more then some one would pay for my 1645's config if they were to buy it right now, but its about $800 more then I paid... good sale was good. I'm going to argue that if the XPS13 was on sale it would be the same price and see what happens.
If they don't take it I'll take the refund and wait a bit to see what happens in the laptop market, maybe cross my fingers for an i3 or i5 XPS 13. (1345 anyone?)

Cancelled my order before I received it, now considering my options and waiting for news on fixes for 1645, release of 1647 in UK or general availability for Sony F11.
-
keeping it based on recent news from Dell Bill and Dell Todd about an official fix coming soon. (should be bios A07 and free 130 PSU sent to owners)
-
Hope it is ready when i get my baby!
-
I ordered it and am waiting to see it.
Actually I am wondering the throttling issue will cause an effect to me.
But the throttle issue must be fixed soon. It is a defect, not a feature.
If the issue continues, I definitely return it.
I hope the issue has been officially fixed when my 1645 is delivered. -
I am also waiting on mine, but if throttling won't be fixed completely, I will send it back.
-
I have mine on order and think i will keep it either way. I don't plan to game on it very often, but when i do hopefully the new BIOS they are about to come out with along with the 130w supply will fix the issue. *crosses fingers*
-
I am enjoying mine so I will be keeping it. I am happy to see the new information about the possible throttling fix.
-
since dell is fixing the throttle issue along with a new BIOS after chinese new year (feb 14). you should consider keeping the laptop.
-
I believe it when I see it for myself.
-
I'm waiting for this little honey too. Its looks so clean and i 'm happy the problems are being fixed. So I can't wait to get mine. EDD 02/24/2010
*side note, really anxious to see just how hot it really gets lol
