    Hi!

There was a poll for idle temps, but I am more interested in your values for max temp for the GPU.

Setting: 8 mins of running Rthdribl on a M1330; HWMonitor read-out for max. GPU temp in Celsius.

Mine would be 104°C. After another 2mins the GPU clocked down, resulting in "only" 98°C.

    Curious about your numbers!

I have never crossed 73-75 max, even after 15 mins of RTHDRIBL.

PS., for what system do you want to have this poll for? And the temp' have been reported all around, including max temp' in different settings, in quiet a few long threads here, if I remember well.

Thanks for the input - I forgot the name of the system. Updated that in the text, but the poll does not allow an update I figure.

Those temps are mentioned a lot in discussions, but I thought it would be interesting to see them combined in a poll.

The highest temp i have ever seen on my gpu (during heatwave) was 81C- 1.5 hour of Furmrark. Tipically when gameing its between 71 and 75

    no need for a poll.

please go to the NBR Cooling Central.

Nvidia mobile GPU's danger temp is around ~95C (which would cause down clocking). The threshold temp that would cause system shutdown is above 100C.

if you videocard remains above 90C for long periods of time, then please clean the vents of the notebook, and make sure you are using it ONLY on clean, hard, flat surfaces..... so that you are not blocking the bottom vents and fans.

you are damaging your videocard if its at 90C+ degrees... which would cause artifacts and permanently damage it.

If you have a defective videocard that is causing the excessive heat, then get it replaced immediately (through warranty).

Ideally you want your videocard to run under 90C degrees.

Mine is no more than 73 degrees C using copper mod. Without copper mod, it was 94+

without a cooler, the highest GPU temp i've seen was 78c.

p.s. - for the guys that voted for 100c+. call dell now.

And tell them what? They already replaced the mainboard including the GPU, and the new setup reaches the exact same temperatures. In my opinion it's a design flaw in the M1330, and the only thing I could do is give back the computer and get something else than a M1330...

thats way too high still.... maybe they might have swapped the GPU with another defective one.... which would suck.

... or the fan(s) are not doing their jobs.

if you do not have a 3 year warranty with Dell, then I recommend to get another warranty replacement (while you still have it), or a new notebook.... because the notebook will be permanently damaged within a year at those temps.

and you might want to get a good notebook cooler as well.

    Thanks for your input.

I wanna be rational at this point. If the GPU dies, the only thing I really worry about is if the hard disk could suffer somehow too. Is a data loss likely?

Because if not, then the only problem I'm having is that after hours of Far Cry the GPU clocks down to avoid further damage.

A scenario in which the notebook will stop to work is manageable I think, with the 3 years premium support and a technician coming and repairing the notebook on the next day.

Is there another reason why I should act now?

    Thanks!

ah i didn't know u had a m1330. but that is still a bit high. there was a recent revision in the heatsink/copper assembly in the m1530. u could possibly check to see if there is a new one for the m1330. copper mode would help, but it would void yur warranty. have u looked into gettin a cooler? u could check o those are very high temps, especially if u'r gaming at those kinds of temps for long periods of time.

My temps for my gpu never go above 65 degrees celcius while running prime 95 and nvidia geoforms simultaneously for an hour and a half. the highest ive seen were:

    1. 9700m gts - 65
    2. cpu - 68
    3. hd 1 - 125
    4. hd 2- 130

the hard drives are hot because i just put two in and they are on top of each other, so the heat dissipates to each other.

before, C: drive never went above 118.

GPU temps shouldnt exceed 80c at most

The biggest problem with the M1330 w/ a 8400m GS is the thermal pad it uses. It will barely transfer any heat to the heatsink causing it to heat it up on its own. Its conductivity is as good as a brick.

Its like running the gpu thats barely touching the heatsink.

Cleaning the fans wont do much. Only the copper mod can fix this issue.

Yeah, and you DON'T have a M1330. That was the whole point of my poll, but I forgot to insert the name of the system in the poll question (and I couldn't modify that afterwards). Because it is my feeling that many owners of the M1330 have ridiculously high GPU stress temps, and except of modifying the computer (copper mod) or using a cooler there is not that much one can do, except of getting rid of the notebook.

Can you tell us how you do the copper mod for an M1530? Much appreciate if you could share your experience here. Thanks.

the copper mod is actually a popular mod for the m1330. a m1530's thermal control should be more than adequate if all is workin properly.

Yeah xps 1530 @ max stable overclock whilst playing crysis only hits 68 degrees, So the internal cooling assembly is sufficient.

you're so lucky to get an m1530 with that temps. mine hit 83 degrees after just 30 mins playing COH without o/c and WITH undervolting. your max o/c temps are just same to my idle ones!

searching around but seems there's no way to reduce the temp so far... :(

have u tried switching to the A09 bios? in the A09 bios, the fans kick in around 65c -/+. also try to remove yur hardware covers and see if there is any dirt buildup.

Any temp below 85C is ok for the GPUs.
    Anything above that is scary.

I've flashed A09 but the temps remain unchanged. I always use my laptop on a flat hard surface without anything blocking the heat outlet at the back. Ambient temp, luckily we are in winter here, is around 26 degree C. Absolutely no dust buildup since the lappy has been out of the box for a month or so.

I tried a couple of forcewares and found the best for mine (with above scrary temps) is 178.24. With Dell stock driver, the temps got around 5-6 degree higher.

I hate to use a cooler. The reason why I bought this one is that it looks sleek and thin. It would look ugly with a cooler beneath. In addition, carrying around a cooler is not cool at all!

    Vostro 1510 + copper mod + a13 bios:

    Max temp 72c.

The cooling fan on this laptop does an amazing job at keeping temps down.

@houstoned: thanks for your advice. unfortunately i can't find such a cooler here. for the time being i underclock the gpu about 20% and the max temp now 77 degree C.

somehow i will try to get my max temp below 70. still in the dark about how to. but certainly i will (maybe a bit sacrifice performance) :)

Are those HD temperatures Fahrenheit or Celsius? If they're Celsius I'm surprised your hard drive still works at all - hard drives are supposed to stay at or below 55C (131F).

Whoops. Didn't realize this was M1330-specific. My Inspiron 1520 hits 71 maximum while gaming, so take one off the 70-75 category if you want to try to 1330-analyse it. Highest it ever hit was 96, but that's because I forgot to disable silent (fans-off) mode, a situation I've avoided thenceforth by adding GPU (as well as CPU) temp sensors to silent mode.

That's with overclocking and no undervolting or other mods/coolers. Kinda glad it did go up to 96 once, made me worry a lot less about my modest overclocks damaging anything.

Mmm.. after only 2 mins, mine reached 95C (could've reach more, but I stopped it). I guess I'm in the minority here. I just got my MOBO and heat sink replaced.. am I screwed? lol

with my cryo LX and my 8800m GTX SLI at 610/910/1550 i never get above 79 C, and with out the cooler ill hit 81 C sometime(think my cryo LX power supply is broke it does not make alot of noise and it tends to not feel like its pushing all that much air). IM sure though my temps are helped by my fans being at full blast from OCing my CPU
