    Hi Guys

I have 3 laptops in my house, all use Intel cards. My other halfs D620 gets excellent signal everywhere downstairs but my new XPS 1530 seems to have poor/fair signal all the time.

I know it's not the router as the other laptops are and have been fine for months, I have updated the card to the latest Intel drivers but this didn't help?

I haven't been near the back plate to knock anything out of place?

Is this a common issue with these laptops? Searched on the forums but to be honest I didn't find much really so I thought I'd post

    Any help/advice would be great

    Many thanks ;)

I am interested to find out if this s at all common, especially since I had the dell card ordered originally and because of what i read here I upgraded it to the intel.

I have one question, is it the N card you have? and if so what is your router? Maybe you need to adjust how your router broadcasts the signal.

I have a Netgear DG834GTv3 not sure about the card as I'm at work at the moment...

I suppose I could tweak the router signal but as I said everything else is and has been perfect until now....

    Will post back later ;)

Just realized, my card is a 4965A NG so yes it already has an "N" card in it which I hear is a good module by all accounts..

Will recheck wireless router tonight and see what I can fix...!

I have exceptional signal quality, on par with other laptops I had. Maybe the antenna connections to the wifi board are loose and barely touching. Check them under the smaller panel on the bottom of the laptop. Wifi board is on the right. I also have the Intel 4965AGN.

yea, the channel makes a difference especially if you use wireless house phones. also, make sure your router is set to N mode (if your other laptops have an N-rated Card) the routers are set to mixed B/G/N mode.

Reseated all 3 cables, router is not a "N" model but it can do "Auto 108mbps" should I bump it up to that settings?

So far its been on Excellent since I've rechecked the cables?

I have a Netgear WPNT834 Router, it only does B and G. My channel changes from time to time, I just left it to Auto.

So the signal strength has been good since you reseated the cables?

Yes but I can only say that by using the Vista signal check which is poor, I may install VistaStumbler and see what that says...
