I'm in the process of returning my system (not due to this paint issue) but due to the screen issues/dell's inability to give me a replacement [full story: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=466082].

Back to this thread's topic, I have babied this thing and have never dinged this portion of the laptop on anything but the paint still seems to chip away.. does anyone else have anything like this picture?

Wow... that sucks! My XPS 16 doesn't look like that anywhere, actually the paint job is even and chip free. Do you put it in a sleeve before putting it in a bag? Maybe just a bad paint job... but it is on the palmrest and the body, which is odd. I wonder if a zipper could be scraping away at it?

    Josh,

You've really had a lot of problems with your laptop? I haven't had one problem like you've had so far. When is your new EDA for your new laptop? We you able to get the RGBLED screen?

It's not plastic, it's magnesium. If you scratch a tiny bit off the paint then the acidic oils from your hands can get in a start to errode it slowly

They were not able to get me the RGBLED.. because they cant supply it with an i7 processor... even though this 620M is basically an i5 with i7 in the name, it's not a quad core..

So they are issuing me a full refund which is currently still processing... which when I do send it in will take 3 - 4 weeks to even get the money. I don't know if I even want to re order .. it's just ridiculous beyond all belief.

Well wouldn't that be great in a fire.. LOL

Guess you really had an awful experience with Dell. Wait for the new Macbook Pros to come out with core i5 or the HP envy. Just minus a backlit keyboard and cd-rom drive. Better GPU though :D
