Is the XPS 15 considered a desktop replacement or is it portable enough to bring to coffee shop, Barnes & Noble etc.
I see a lot of 13 inch and 14 inch laptops and they all have the 1368 x 768 resolution and I would love to have a high resolution display laptop. The only small laptop I've seen with a higher resolution is the Sony Z, which looks kind of fragile and is more than I want to spend. And the Envy 14 no longer has the high resolution display.

I have an XPS 15 and I carry I have replaced my desktop with it (I use an external monitor, keyboard and mouse at home), and I use it both at school and Starbucks. I bought a good backpack (Swiss Gear Pegasus) to carry it in and I don't think it is bad at all to carry.

It depends...anything is portable, the question is what do feel as comfortable...For normal sized people there are 3 weight categories:
1. small notebooks up to 2kgs...they can be carried in a messenger bag the whole day.
2. notebooks between 2kgs and 3kgs, like the XPS15...you need a backpack for them if you want to lug them around, but if you have good one it won't feel very heavy
3. notebooks heavier than 3kgs are heavy even in a backpack, and not comfortable for most people
These categories take the following into account: average weighted men having to carry the notebook around on foot or on public transport.
