I have a SLI 1730, and I like the idea of using a 2nd video card to drive my external monitor while the laptop screen is powered by the SLI cards.

I know the 1730 does not have D/Dock Support, so is it possible to connect a external video card that can be used just for my external screen?

The external screen wouldn't need video acceleration, just enough to watch movies and browse the web.

Cliffs. Is there a way to use my external screen while SLI is enabled w/o D/Dock support?

there is no such thing as an external video card. I am referring to a physical video card that exists outside of the laptop chassis so maybe you were referring to something else? Please rephrase your question if you were.

I was wondering if any company made a product that could connect a PCI video card up to a XPS 1730 to enable Dual Monitors while SLI was enabled. (Laptop + External)

If not.... then I will probably Never use SLI, and that's such a waste of power.

SLI does not use two monitors. You use SLI to drive one monitor to even higher graphics levels.

I don't know if that is your answer but I think a quick Google search would have yielded more favorable results.

I would never call that a true video card. 8mb of vram? integrated graphics offer much more than that. That product is far better classified as an external monitor modifier...or something...

I actually struggle to see the point of the OP's post. So you want the main screen of your laptop to be for pure gaming while you have a tv and or web browser up on another...Your limit here is that you still only have one keyboard and mouse and unless your game support 2 monitors I can't see having a bunch of crap up on one monitor and a game on the other being very functional.

The XG station is vaporware. It'll come out when Duke Nukem Forever is released.
