I was wondering if it were possible to hook my desktop up to my 1530 through the VGA port and use the notebook screen as the desktop display.

No. There's no video inputs on the M1530.

Well, if your desktop has S-Video out you could buy an S-Video to RCA cable and then buy a GameBridge and hook that up to your laptop. However, the GameBridge is like $190 and the cable is around $40, so you are better off buying a monitor.

Not with the VGA port, but I think you can use it by using applications that send the screen image via the network.

(I was planning to do the reverse - use the screen of an old notebook as an ancillary to my desktop screen, - the old Vaio we have can be opened about 270 deg so the keyboard/base can be used as a stand)
Possible to use notebook display as display for desktop?
