I just want to know how the power adapter of the Studio XPS 13 looks like, because the size of the power brick is essential to me. Although you can buy a separate one but that would be a waste of money.

So my question is, what's the difference between the 65W power adapter and the 95W power adapter? This is because choosing the Geforce 9500GE online would change the power adapter from 65W to 95W.

Why is this anyway? Isn't the 9500GE suppose to save more battery than the stock 9400GS??

    Hey colin,

The studio xps 13 works like this, when you are on battery, it will only use the geforce 9200gs, thus saving some battery life, but when you connect it to the power brick, it will use both 9200gs and 9400gs to form a 9500.... so the seize of the power brick can vary, but its still smaller and slimmer than the traditional 90W adapter used in most dells, its a new cool design dell made just for the studio xps line :D

im not aware, however, of the actual seize since i've not seen it in person.

    actually still not exactly right

depending on your power options; lets say balanced option

    on power: 9400 + 9200 = power boost mode
on batt: only motherboard gpu, the 9400.. the extra 9200 is shutoff = power save mode

with just the 9400, the 65watt power adaptor will be fine
with the 9400 + 9200, the 90watt power adaptor is required

I have both adaptors (the 65w is a 3rd party one)
... personally the new 90watt the sxps 13 uses, is quite thin, and portable enough. Way better than the older 90watt

    Its the other way around
When you're at full battery, the 9200gs and the 9400m will be working but when the battery drains to a certain level, only the 9400m works. I havent tried the 90w on my sxps 13, but all i can say is that if you drain the battery completely or almost completely and then you plug in the charger, the power brick gets HOT; really HOT.

But i dont think youll be holding the power brick in your hand. So if you charge the sxps completely, unplug it from the charger and let the power brick sit for a minute or two to cool down.

That's not true either. You can choose whether you want to use the 9200 or not at all times, depending on your power profile. You always have the option to use the 9200 as well, no matter what your battery level.

The 90w adapter for the SXPS 13 is smaller than the 90w for the M1530, but I don't know if the 65w is smaller again.

right, you can always force the 9200 on if you want; however you can also setup power profiles to shutoff the 9200 if the battery drains to a certain level

theres alot of flexibility with the hybrid gpu stuff

Hahaha thanks for the replies guys!

Like how the next reply always says, "not exactly true" or "not right either".

    Hi Colin,

Here some pictures on the 90watt adapter

And with the power profile thing, end of they day you can manually change all the power profiles so the defaults are irrelevant.
