    Hello guys!

I'm sure a lot of you guys have this problem, but i was wondering if anybody knew where to buy an "L" adapter for the dell xps 17" (lx702). I'm sure this would fix the problem.

    I live in canada.

    Thanks for any suggestion,

    zaedas

If you are in warranty, you should call up Dell and demand that they do something about it. Otherwise, there is a thread floating around (you'll have to search for it), about bending the pins inside the power jack such that they grip the adapter tip better.

People have bought these adapters before and have seen a thread about it a while back. Try a search for it. I have also heard of people who have had a part replaced from dell but it wasnt even any better. So i think its simply a bad design which we will have to live with. I personally wouldnt try to bend the one pin as you'll have a whole lot more trouble if it brakes.

I just bought this on the recommendation of another user here. Haven't gotten it yet to test, but I got it more to avoid the thing sticking so far straight out the back, though my connector is loose.

You can also use fine tools to bend the contacts in the socket inward SLIGHTLY to get a better fit. Just make sure the battery is out and all stored charges are drained (pressing power button a few times) before starting ;)

The link to the fix is located on the bottom of this page by my sig.
This is a design flaw and Dell is doing very little to rectify the problem other than sending technicians to replace the same part over and over again which in most cases doesn't do much except for turning your new computer into a used one. The fix here is real simple. If you have a set of dental tools (or any 'strong' fine tools similar to the ones pictured) and follow the simple directions, you will get your L702 fixed for good! I fixed two units from December 2011 to my latest replacement in January 2012 which I am using to this day and it has been holding up very well. There are no signs of looseness whatsoever and the jack is still gripping very tight since the day of the fix. Although unofficial but Dell is aware of this DIY and since they couldn't seem to come up with anything new other than replacing the same old part, therefore I've declared this as a 'permanent fix' -- unless Dell comes out with an 'updated' replacement (or fix) which they claimed to be looking into.

I can confirm the adapter I linked above works great with the XPS. It is slightly tighter fit in the computer socket (cable to adapter is a very snug fit, not worried about it coming out at all), but it is also a right-angle so it's less likely to get pulled out anyway.

I tried the right-angle plug but unfortunately it slips out too easily, not from the end of this part (plug wire) but the end of the adapter that goes in to the dc jack. It also tends to disconnect much easier since it dangles and swivels, and the cable is angled to the sides so any slightly movement would cause it to 'clipped' out.

Mine might not be as bad as other people's then. But I also only have a small bit of time with it on my lap with the right-angle. I certainly would unplug whenever I shifted position before :D
