My power adaptor was recently replaced when I sent my m1330 in for repairs. The power adaptor they sent back (65 watt, same as before) is much larger however. It's the generic one with the green light, instead of the small one with the blue light. Also, the connect is round, instead of being octagonal, which means it doesn't fit quite as snuggly as it should.

After talking a lot with dell support, they have told me they no longer manufacture my old power adaptor. I find this very difficult to believe, though. Do new m1330s really come with the larger power adaptor? Why ship a large power adaptor with a small laptop?

They've now send me a total of 3 generic power adaptors after claiming to be attempting to send a smaller version. Anyone know if one still exists or are they just sending me generic ones because that's all Dell has now (despite the tech support guys claiming there are other ones)?

It's kind of lame that I paid a lot of money for a smaller, high performance laptop and am getting serviced with lower quality, larger parts!

It sounds like they are sending you the PA-12 adapter, which is for Latitudes...but I think it might work.

Bottom line, I wouldn't trust it.

Oh, it definitely works: I'm using it right now. But, yeah, I don't know that I trust it. It's clearly the wrong one. And it's big, like the kind I used to have with my 15 inch laptop.

What do I do, though? This is the third replacement they've sent that's wrong. Do I just keep phoning and having them promise to send me a different one while they keep sending me identical ones? Is there anybody else I can phone or is there anything better I can tell them?

I guess it'd be great if I knew anyone who bought a m1330 recently. I could see then what power adaptor they have and demand that one.

I got the small one with the blue light recently with my new m1330.

    It says Model DA65NS4-00
    Dell P/N: XK850

I looked around ebay and the web, seems like they use different power adapters with different model numbers for the m1330.

Might as well keep trying. One of these days they'll get it right, and until that happens you'll be costing them money for their mistake.

I got my m1330 about two weeks ago and I have the small adapter.

I'd suggest you 'politely' make a fuss about it. They have all of your calls on record, so tell them that this is the third time you've called about the same problem.

I got the PA-10 (90W) with the green light, it’s a huge adapter, heavy like a brick! so instead of arguing with dell on the type of adapter.
I just bought me a new one, for work and to put at my bag. and I’m sooooo happy with it, cost me basically nothing around 24 bucks without delivery to Israel.
it’s the Kensington 33197 120W Notebook Air Auto AC Adapter with the N19 tip for the dell laptop.
you get it with two more tips. if you buy it through the same store I bought it you can choose which tip u want.
really gr8 adapter doesn’t make any trouble charging thin and light!!! it charge’s my 9cell battery fast as hell!
    I bought it from them:

    Good Luck :)

I received my new (second) M1330 last week and I too received a mammoth PA-10 adapter.

If you look carefully at the current M1330 ordering pages, you'll see that Dell are now specifying a 90 watt power adapter for all CPUs above 2.1 GHz. I suspect that yes, they have indeed stopped making the nice old small brick because all the M1330 configurations today use faster (and, presumably, more power-hungry) processors than a year ago. Ah well.

I bought mine 2 weeks ago with the T7250. I received the small blue led adaptor. When I chose to upgrade my processors though, even I was offered the 90w adaptor on the site. So, I guess that the adaptor supplied depends on your processor

Lol, I got the exact opposite deal!

I requested a generic adapter, figuring I may be able to use it with future Dell models (the hex-shaped connector being 1330 and "maybe" 1530 specific). Furthermore, there is no 1330-specific, blue-LED PA available when ordering from Dell's online catalog, only the generic version (in 65 & 90W varieties).

So what did I get? The 1330-specific, blue-LED PA, lol. Go figure... :err:

A reasonable and even logical presumption, but not quite true:

    From Intel's Processor Finder mini-site:
    T7500 2.2GHz 65nm 35W 100C 1.3V max
    T7800 2.6GHz 65nm 35W 100C ?.?V max
    T9500 2.6GHz 45nm 35W 105C 1.25V max

Note that while the Penryns may have added to the total transistor-count, the new 45nm process keeps the power consumption down (to the same 35W nominal value). Even if we look at the worse-case scenario, an "old" 2.6GHz 65nm T7800, it's still rated at 35W nominal.

That's not to say that there isn't an issue with the 1330 PAs but it could just as well be a defect in the series or maybe even a supply & demand issue... .

I recieved my M1330 a week ago and I got the beast. It's even bigger than the adaptor my sister has on her huge Latitude. :(

Perhaps some slight of hand is in order.

I ordered my 1330 on 6/3 with a T9300 and got the small 65W adapter. I only have the 6-cell battery but it seems to work fine, it doesn't even get that hot.

I think you may get whatever they have on hand when it's boxed.

I'm thinking of buying a second adapter, should I just get another 65W like the one I have or is there any reason to buy the 90W? The 65W seems to work fine and it's smaller, which I like.

AFAIK - no, because the power regulation unit in your 1330 (a small strip of PCB attached to the main mobo with a few caps and what not) will not charge the battery any faster, nor will it "draw" any more current than it's pre-specified value... .

Leave the huge one at home, blueled or not, and get this one :

It's positively tiny AND is also a combination adapter, works great and is a nice companion to my D4xx laptops :)
    > check the techspecs for measurements ;)

That is the Dell Slim Auto/Air/AC Adapter. Read my review about it here.

    Nice and detailed review sinstoic!

Only thing is - they may have updated the text now, but I'm sure it now read '..being 40% lighter than the regular combination power adapter' - I think It's more like ~a third actually, as I've had that one for 5-6 years (also rated at 65w), with much more cumbersome proprietary cables, it gets really really hot while charging and guess the weight is like the 90w adapter off the top of my head.

No matter, I think the Slim is the nicest poweradapter Dell has supplied ever :)
*woks fine with my pc's - but then i don't have any xps m1730's or M90's which need power on the move..and ofcourse you *could* charge these also, but I guess you would get the bios error telling you it's the wrong adapter if you tried to boot the pc with it connected..
