What should I do if the same config I just ordered now costs $100 less? I called Dell CSR and they said they don't price protect, that I should return my order and place it again to get the lower price. Is it just me or does that seem kind of wasteful on their part?

Additionally, I am hitting a brick wall talking to them about getting the complimentary kit. They say it only comes with preconfigured laptops and if you customize any of the 100 options when you order, you don't qualify. Does anyone have the name or extension of a Dell rep that is actually helpful and reasonable? Should I expect this kind of service from all manufacturers?

    Thanks!

i think it depends how soon you need the laptop. They had a sale that would have made my system $60 cheaper but they also told me id need to cancel and reorder the unit, but i decided not to, i move back to school soon. A dell rep i would recommend is Nicole Meek, she's really helpful and isnt pushy at all. (ext. 2169112)

*btw, whats the complimentary kit? is that the sleeve, cd case, earbuds?

Most likely if you call to return the notebook they will offer you a discount to keep it. At least this has been my experience with a few systems in the past.

I think they are calling your bluff because most people won't go through all the trouble for $100. It would be funny if everyone would actually do that though. I bet you would see some price protection really fast. That is a good one about preconfigured laptops. Nobody would get them if that was the case. You said you "just" ordered it. If you mean like in the last few days I would go ahead and cancel it and order it again. If you already got it or ordered it a while ago, I don't know if it is worth it depending on how much $100 means to you and then the price could drop again and you will never have a computer.

You have a 21 day return window, so you can return your laptop for a full refund if you're not satisfied with it.

They are hoping that you'd change your mind once you receive your laptop. Waiting another full month for a $100 discount just isn't worth it for me. :p
