I'm looking for xps m1330 but, like anybody, I search for the best price!

However, it's expensive, I'm hesitated between m1330 and m1530, I know the next year, this laptop will be a bit desuet...

I'm sure that I'm not the only person with this kind of questions! This laptop will be for recording my drum, via firewire card. That's it.

    So,

After calling rep from dell.ca (I'm canadian), I have this quote pricing. The rep are not open to deal! It's because this price are good?

What do you think about that configuration and this price? I will buy memory from online website for 4Gb upgrade.

The XPS 1530 now comes with Penryn processor. check it out.

I just bought an XPS M1330. it has been delivered but i am away from home. Will not get it until Friday. I ordered.

    2.5ghz 6mb processor
    4GB Ram
    13.3 LED display
    Vista Ultimate
    200GB 7200rpm HD
    128mb 8400gs
3yr NBD onsite warranty with Complete Care
    intent Wireless N
    Blue Tooth
    6Cell Battery
    Midnight Blue

I paid 2058 + Tax. so I would say that your price is a pretty good deal at about $500 less. I might even return mine for an XPS M1530 because it is cheaper, has a better video card, and now comes with Penryn. So all the same specs with 1440x900 and 8600GT, I would save $80.

But it is your choice. what is more important to you? I still cant decide. But your price is pretty good. I say call back and try to get a better deal. pay the same price but ask for something free. it is amazing how much they will bargin if they have to.. ask them to get special permission from their manager.

I don't know if it is just because it is the Canadian site but every Canadian (ie. Indian) service rep that I have talked to have refused to give me a deal on any XPS; they say that line cannot be discounted. I don't know what, if anything, I am doing wrong and I have read Les/Flamenko's guide to getting money off (and he is Canadian) so it is confusing. I figure that if you can get maybe $100 off their regular price (configured through Dell.ca's site) that you are doing well. However, there is always waiting for sales; they recently had a good deal for a limited number of 1330's where it was $241 off (I think the 1530s are still on sale) and they still have the regular $400 or so off configuration. Who knows what they might have tomorrow (they change on Thursdays)? Sorry I can't be more helpful on your specific question but my experience is that you can't bargain with them.

Yeah, in fact, my quote pricing are build from the 1330's where it was $241 off.

Dell rep don't make a deal to me, he removed memory and put small hard drive, and add 3 years of warranty.

I have read lot's topics about bargain, from french europeen forum, lot's people who have a big rebate and I have listen all tips for bargain.

I'm very polite guys and I speak well, I have try to flirt with rep (a girl), I have try to be "idiot" with questions like: "sure, the warranty is 3 years I think", I have try with phrase like: "no need 3 years warranty, it's too expensive and no necessary". I have try the "poor" man: "My budget are limited...I need laptop now, not a warranty"
I have try "menace" like "Oh...I remember, I have EPP #, can you make rebate? or give me phone for call EPP please"

And right now from dell.ca, the price for m1330 is much higher!!

    dell.ca it's not dell.com.. for sure

I paid 1580 after tax. Regular 1870 or something before tax. I was pretty impressed. I don't think this can be done now though. I ordered it last thursday and i am also in canada.

dell would not budge on price but i think it's because i got a sick deal. Anytime before this that i had customized a 1530 with my specs it was over 2000 with tax. I had a 20% off coupon to. I posted in a thread but it expired on wednesday (yesterday) so it won't do you any good now. But it was an automatic 200 or 300 dollars off plus the instant online savings and an 80$ coupon i got to work with the 20% off one.

That sounds expensive. I know i got a good deal but i got

    -a bigger screen
    -more HDD space
    -bluetooth
-why did you get 4gb of ram? dell ****s you on ram the charge way to much. just upgrade yourself. and why do you want 4gb? vista only recognizes 3.5 so you paid an arm and a leg for .5 gb of ram

and i paid 300 dollars less

If you aren't scared off by outlet stuff, you can get a good deal on one there. Mine was $1560 after a 15% coupon from the Dell Outlet. I went through and priced it as if it was new and the price came up to over $2500.

WHen I was doing price exploring I made a M1530 with the same pretty much..and the m1530 Was actually cheaper like yours...I didnt want a bigger screen .. I was going for portability and in portability even a pound or 2 is a huge difference this is going to be used for college... as for the ram...Im extremely lazy and I hate buying **** so I jsut got it already put in rather than buying it myself elsewhere Also for the $599 off you only have the choice between a 200gb 7200rpm or a 64 gb ssd which was 650 more..so I passed...I guess its just about your preference

ya i suppose. I know I have been using a 12" acer Travel Mate C100 mostly for a laptop and the screen is brutally small. My dad'd 13" toshiba looks tiny to me to. His last 15 inch laptop though was really easy to look at. I'm in grade 11 so I will mostly be using mine at home and stuff. When I go to university I will still use it though. I don't mind it being a bit bigger but your right. It comes down to personal preference.

But i prefer better specs and bigger screen for less money over ram that can't be used and a smaller screen for more money. (i don't mean to sound like an a$$ by the way. That's just how it comes out :p)

I've got a 15.4" now, and it's brutal to travel with. I either have to take a whole separate bag for it, or squeeze it into my one bag and have clothes falling out when I rip it out of the bag for security, then try to stuff it all back in afterwards. Then there's the extra weight, and how it doesn't fit on a tray table if the screen is open. It's fine when it just sits on the coffee table though.

For me it boils down to this: If you've got a desktop machine, go as portable as you can for a laptop. If you want a laptop only then you'll need to figure out the right compromise.

I got roughly the same deal Chris did, just got the RAM on my own and 64 GB SSD, along with 3 year warranty. Came to US$2000.24 (I realize that probably doesn't help canadians at all).
