    All -
I'm having some problems with my 1730 and the wireless card. It shipped with the 3945 Intel card. The card worked for the first week or so I had the system, but as since stopped working. The Dell quickset util shows everything is functional, but the wifi (and all other tools for that matter) do not locate any networks. There are networks around, as my D620 and my wife's laptop are all operating on the same wireless network.

I had originally thought that maybe it has become dislocated from whatever slot it is plugged into in the laptop, however since device manager and the Dell QuickSet show it functional, I doubt that to be the case.

Anyone else have any issues? The Dell guy on the phone sounds clueless, and I think I'm about at the point of having a Dell rep come and take a look at it.

    Thanks for any input...

    Right sorted it! :)

I had noticed that my WiFi light on the side of the machine had gone out. In device manager right click/properties on your WiFi card under network adapters and make sure the option to allow windows to turn off this device is 'unchecked'. Windows cannot turn this device off now to save power.

Also I made some changes in the BIOS.

There are a couple of options to allow modification of the wireless switch if you're an administrator. These default to denied, I changed them to the other option. (Allowed / Access) can't remember what it was called sorry.

    Works fine now :D
