I've run into a potentially huge issue. I downloaded an album of one of my favorite bands. Here's why I had to have it:

The Very Best Of The Eagles - Digitally Remastered 2001 HDCD
Official Chinese HDCD 24bit version ripped to FLAC with dbpoweramp hdcd dsp plugin.

So here's the problem, I tried playing it, and all I get is weird static noise.

Please tell me that this laptop can play 24bit audio files. I have no problems playing FLAC files, so I know it's not a missing codec problem.

I am guessing if you downloaded it in Flac with a chinese version, it is not legitimate, and that is not a good thing to post to a site like these.

No no, the CD is legitimate. It was released in China as a HDCD, so when the person ripped it, he used the plugin so it was coded as 24 bit. And when I ran it through dbpoweramp and changed it to 16bit, it played fine and it was english, so it is legitimate.

Open your Sound Control Panel. On the Playback tab, select your speakers, then select the Advanced Tab. Change the default format to something lower. If the mp3 plays fine, then you know its either an encoding issue or your system is having a problem with playing 24-bit.

Test it on another known good 24-bit. If its still unplayable - then you have your answer.
