Hey guys, i've got an 11 month old XPS 15 L502X and the specs are
Windows Professional 64-bit
Intel 2630qm
500gb hdd
Nvidia 540m 2gb
Just 2 months ago, i had some problem where my games would constantly crash while i was plugged in but it wouldnt when i was just using the battery. I called dell and they replaced my motherboard. After the replacement i realised that my games no longer run as smoothly as they used to. Before the replacement, my Counter Strike Source used to run at about 120-190 FPS. Now i'm only getting 30 FPS max without any players in the server and it is totally unplayable. What could the problem be? I have done everything i could including clean install over and over again but nothing works. Thanks in advance for those who help.

Can you install optimus tool ,and see if the nvidia GPU is active when running 3d apps?

skull- Just wondering if you were with the tech when they did the repair? I had the "loose power adapter" issue and Dell finally replaced the mother board. While the tech was working on my XPS 17, he dropped the heat sink onto the MB, then put a huge blob of thermal paste on the CPU. After the repair, the computer was not the same and Dell finally gave me a new replacement. I would contact your resolution specialist and request a replacement. I have found that when I was polite to the Dell reps, they went the extra mile. Just remember, you are in the right to request a replacement. Good Luck

I'm really curious how did you manage to get a new replacement simply with the argument "the computer was not the same". I have the OP's original problem in that my computer crashes when I game, and I'm really dreading having to talk to customer support as my previous experience with them have been very depressing.

It is active and they also show Reference : 107. Not sure what the reference thing means though but i'm still getting the unplayable 20-30 FPS sadly. Could it be a problem with the card itself that's soldered to the motherboard?

I was with him when he did the repair and i did notice he had also applied a lot of thermal paste on the new CPU and GPU. Could it be because of the thermal paste that the GPU isnt as good as it was because I've heard that it is not recommended to apply too much of it. If nothing works, i'll probably ring them up again to ask for a replacement. If that's what i have to resort to, it'll be their 5th time coming over to my place to fix my laptop.
Problem with replaced motherboard?
