I'm trying to watch a video that's 1080p and it skips frames. My framerate will stay around 30ish but then every couple of minutes or so will dip down to 7. I would think my specs would be fine... any suggestions? For what it's worth, it's a matroska (.mkv) file and I am trying to run it in VLC media player.

VLC is not the best choice for HD videos. It is very processor intensive. The decoding is done by the processor and if windows requires its attention in some areas, VLC will frame HD content. Download this, aka, Wishmaker's solution to amazing HD playback and low CPU usage. Thanks for mentioning it was an *.mkv. Some of us, experts in HD content, already know
.

Dont be a wiseguy, Wishmaker
Jarn, I use Gomplayer, and BSplayer for HD contents, but I also make sure that there is no HDD activity when doing so and I kill all unnecessary tasks... -
I'd recommend you try the file in Media Player Classic Homecimema. It has support for DXVA which if it works will offload processing to your GPU.

. In any case, you guys do it the way you want it. I play 1080p HD content without closing anything. I don't need to. I even scan with my Norton and HD playback is smooth like a baby's bottom

By the way, what's in the pack?

MPC +CoreAVC+AC3

You can't distribute CoreAVC unless it's a Trial Version.

Differences between them. I am willing to lend my license to who needs it.

Wow, I'm guessing Intel did a good job on Montevina then, because I watch HD content easily based on .mkv files with little to no issues of cpu usage.

. VLC is bad for HD playback. It consumes more processor power than it should. I opened a thread comparing the two. Click on my sig.
