Problems with LCD (LED backlight) screen on the XPS M1330![]()
Something strange is happening with my M1330 I turn it on and everything but the screen turns on, then, I realized that the screen was on the only thing off was the LED backlight! (if you leave something white on the desktop like a document you'll be able to see it, also happens when coming off stand by)
the only solution I found was to close and open the lid (changed the config of the lid so it doesn't go into stand by)
something else I noticed is that it could go the other way instead of turning the LED backlight off it would turn the whole screen WHITE! (I realized this by waiting 5 min until the screen should turn off, but instead it turns white) when I touch the mouse it resumes though.
Also, right before the computer shuts down the screen instead of going blabk it goes white, and then the pc turns off.
HAS anyone found a solution or the cause of this???
it's really annoying and my warranty is expired!![]()

Sounds like a bad screen to me. Have you tested it with an external monitor to make sure it is not the video card? Which video card do you have?

I did connect the laptop to a external lcd but at the time I wasn't aware of these problems, I'll have to check on that...
The GPU I believe is a Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS, which I have read generates problems in this specific laptop model. That's why I'm worried because my warranty is long overdue. -
hmmm....I'm having a screen problem too. I have the LED backlight and when its not plugged into the wall, the backlight can be dimmed to the point where its not even on. The max it goes to when on battery power is still REALLY dim. Also, I've noticed sometimes the white seems to make everything seem overexposed. Does this sound to be the same as your problem? It only does this on battery power, not when its plugged in. Which crosses out my idea that it was a burnt out LED.

Hello, I was the original person that created this thread...
I forgot to post what happen w/ the laptop (is fixed)
ok, so in my case it was just happening occasionally mostly coming back from standby (if I remember correctly) I was going to leave it like that and just not use standby at all, but I had also decided that I wanted to change the lcd cover of the laptop. To my biggest surprise after I replaced it, the LCD never went black on me again!
SO, I do not know if the laptop received a hit and somehow made a connection loose in the backlight or if it just needed some pressure... (I do remember that at the beginning I could apply some pressure at sometimes it would work)
In your case your lcd is black all the time, that might mean that the backlight is beyond repair? (I don't know) I do know that you can get a lcd replacement on ebay (last resource, if your warranty already expired)
Good luck, and please keep posting (don't follow my example)
