So I installed windows 7, and now I am occasionally getting problems with my laptop. First of all, occasionally firefox/ie will freeze when watching youtube videos. Applications will open, but then stop responding. And earlier today, the screen turned green and it looked like a color test. I had to restart my computer to fix it. I feel like I am restarting my laptop a whole lot more with windows 7. Is there a fix to these problems? Thanks.

What would help is if you have the specifics of your hardware ... a good idea would be to have it in your signature ...

Are your drivers up to date?
Is this a fresh install of W7 or an upgrade from Vista?

    My system is: Dell XPS 16, P8600 2.4 ghz, windows 7 64 bit, ATi - HD 4670, 4GB DDR3 ...

I used the windows 7 home premium update from dell.

I think my drivers are pretty well up to date. When I go to the dell support drivers and dowloads page, the updates are only recommended. Should I do all of them?

Instead of downloading Dell stuff, tried installing ALL updates from Windows Update and Microsoft Update? For me WU and MU have installed everything except my Bluetooth and I've never had those problems.

Also, how old is your laptop?

I got it at the end of august.
According to windows update I just need to download 2 optional fixes, which I did.

Check Event Viewer, see if it logs any Error or Critical entries.

You weren't clear about your W7 installation, was it a clean install or an in-place upgrade?

It was the free windows 7 home premium upgrade sent by dell because I bought a computer that fit the requirements.

But did you upgrade/install by loading the setup in Vista

or did you boot directly to the DVD upon power-on, and formatted your drive to do a clean-install?

to the OP, i have the same issue, though it hasnt happened with youtube, but with other video players. The problem lies with FLASH, and youtube happens to be a flash player, as well as many other video players. What happens to me is that the screen locks up if i go fullscreen and freezes, and will even sometimes flash in different colors leading to a bsod which happens to be with yellow font color and black background. So you are not alone...

btw i have the latest flash installed, and Ive done some research online, and it seems many people are having this issue, though there is no solution in sight. hopefully there will be a fix soon....

Just found this thread, I received my 1645 on the 30th and have encountered this issue as well. It only happens in IE, in Firefox I can do full screen with no issues. The machine does not actually lock up completely but it is so unresponsive that powering on/off is really the only solution.

I would make sure to update you BIOS since your system is 6 months old.

And most DEFINITELY do a clean install :)

I'm back, I've done the bios and computer updates and the problem has not gone away. I haven't done a clean install because I now have programs on the computer. I don't know if this will help id the problem, but not only do youtube videos occasionally freeze, but pc games sometimes do too. It is strange, I will be playing a game online and then it locks up so I end the program, and then just to see I try internet and videos freeze. If I try to open the game again it freezes while loading.

Hey kaos4, here's what I'll suggest. Try out Flash beta 10.1 Beta 3. When I first received my 1645 with Win 7, I had massive slow-downs/freezes when playing videos online. I installed these and my problems disappeared. Uninstall your old Flash version first. Then if you're using Firefox install the "plug-in for windows". If you're using IE install the "active-x for windows". Hopefully this works and tides you over until the Flash 10.1 comes out.
