I received my XPS 1530 on June 6th, and since then I've noticed a few problems with the laptop:

    1. Aluminum finish seems to be rougher than in-store models. And there are what appear to be a few deepish scratches.

    2. The power slot doesn't keep a tight hold on the plug. My girlfriend's Inspiron keeps a much tighter hold on the plug as does the 1330 XPS in stores.

    3. The USB slots on the left side seem to keep a very tight grip. It's hard to get anything in or out without using one hand to firmly hold the laptop and the other to insert the drive.

    4. There might be some light leakage on the monitor. The bottom edge has a strange glow when the screen is black, which I'm assuming is light leakage. Also when the screen is tilted toward me I can see that the plastic doesn't fit exactly flush against the screen in some parts, revealing some light. The bottom part also gets very hot but I'm assuming that's normal.

    5. This problem was easily fixed but when I opened the box the bottom case to the internal components was popped out at one corner. Easily fixed with a screwdriver though.

What I'm wondering is if these problems are worthy of a replacement laptop? If so, how does Dell go about doing this? Do they send some one out to check it out, and if it can't be fixed do they send me a new laptop then when I receive the new one I send them the old one?

    Thanks.

You are beyond your exchange period so now you will have to deal with a tech coming out and attempting to fix these things.

    Personally, your laptop sounds fine.

I have had my palmrest replaced due to the first one pitting. My current one does feel "rougher" I guess. And does have a few deeper "brushes" here and there. But it doesn't discolor nor has it formed any pitting (knock on wood). So I am more then happy with it.

My powerplug is a little "loose" I suppose. I own a bunch of Vostro's and older Dell laptops for work (the Vostro's are tanks BTW), and the powerplugs do fit more snug. But I have never had a problem on my M1530, with the power falling out, or getting bumped out etc....

Personally I would rather have my USB ports hold whatever is plugged into them tight.

The light leakage one is a tough one. Which screen do you have? There is some light leakage that is considered acceptable. Also do you notice it when your screen is not black? About the bezel not being flush. Run a finger around it with some pressure (not to much of course). It just snaps in place, so maybe a snap isn't snapped. If need be, request to have it replaced.

To answer your final question, no Dell will not replace your laptop based on what you have listed. If you were in your exchange period then of course. But to me, your laptop sounds more then fine.

From personal experience, if you can live with any minor nuance of the laptop. Live with it. My experience with on site tech's. Have been they don't exactly know what they are doing, and in general don't take to great of care when working on other peoples systems.

Ok, thanks. I guess your right. It's fine enough to just keep it rather than deal with trying to get it repaired. The light leakage is only minor and when it's turned off, I probably wouldn't care about it except that I hear everyone complain about light leakage all the time.

Thanks, I'll just keep my laptop the way it is.

Yeah probably a good idea. But if you want, see if you can take a picture of it and post it here.
