    Hey guys

Finally made up my mind and I'm going for a 1730, worth the $4k I'm going to fork out as I will use it as my main computer. I don't think the m15x would make a better computer as I don't think it has more capability as the 1730 if im going to use it as my main computer to do everythig. Have a few questions

Specs: 2.8 ghz core 2 duo extreme / 4 gigs of ram / dual sli 512 8800gtx cards/ 4 year warrenty and 4 year accidental damage warrenty

    1. How long can I leave the 1730 on untill it gets too hot and have to turn it off (without and with a cooling system). I'm so used to keeping my desktop on for hours and even days sometimes.

    2. Has there been any over heating issues with this system and with its cooling system?

    3. If I overclock it to 3.2 ghz, will be ok, or will I need a cooling system, how about 3.4 ghz?

    4. And should I get the 3dmark06 benchmark software for my system when I configure my system or can you get that software free? (alienware charges $35)

Thanks for all your feedback, after almost 2 weeks I finally picked out a system I'm happy with

    1. As long as you want. The laptop is designed to be on.
    2. If you don't overclock, everything should be fine.
    3. Check your temps and find out.
    4. As already stated, there is a free version of 3DMark06. Don't purchase it; you don't need the extra features.

The free version gives the same score as the paid version. The difference is that the paid version has options enabled while the free version doesn't. For instance, with the paid version, you can select what resolution to run it in. With the free version, you can't. Most people that post 3DMark scores here are running the free version.

I will let you know when mine gets too hot. It's been on for the past 3 weeks so far...

No cooling system, no propping up the back. Just flat on the desk, or on my lap.

Yeah. I was trying for funny, not sarcastic. I have a bog standard 1730 with no EXTRA cooling systems. I leave the computer on all the time. No problems.

It gets up to about 35 degrees C (no idea what that is in F, about 95 I think) in the office at the moment so I don't think cooling is a major concern unless you are gaming 24x7.
