All,
A couple of weeks ago, my Dell M1530 died in the dreaded "stuck in sleep mode" coma. Although I coaxed it back out once, and it stayed up for about two or three days, it happened again, and this time I decided to see what my options were. I wasn't optimistic, as my warranty had expired about six months ago.
I discovered information about the the extended nVidia GPU warranty, called Dell, and they authorized a warranty repair after running a few tests. After the phone tech ran me through a display check, I was in business. What's more startling is that they turned the thing around in less than 24 hours and shipped it back to me.
I've had my own run-ins and frustrations with Dell over the years, as have many of us, but I can't complain about a free motherboard replacement and lightning-quick turnaround on my M1530.

Glad it all worked out for you, and the nVidia Warranty extension pulled through ~ as well with no problems with Depot : )

Wow. That sounds awesome! I don't know if I have the same issue as you, but I haven't been able to get Dell to fix the defective nVidia GPU in my XPS m1530.
What happened with me was that I connected my laptop to my HDTV through an HDMI connection (the laptop was already turned on). Then I decided to restart the laptop while it was still connected to the HDMI connection and so far I could see my desktop on the TV. But when the computer restarted, nothing came on the screen (both the TV and the laptop screen were blank). I could hear the hard drive and CD drive running but there was nothing on the screen.
That's when I decided to turn the computer off, disconnect HDMI, bring the laptop back to my table and connect the AC adapter. I turned the laptop on again and the same thing happened: the hard drive light is on, I can hear the hard drive and CD drive running, but nothing appears on the screen.
There might be a fix for this. I contacted Dell two months ago and told them it could be the defective GPU. Unfortunately, they didn't help. That's when I got the laptop fixed from an independent repair shop (the guy charged me for the fix, he never told me exactly what the problem was, but told me the issue was with the GPU and that he "fixed" it). And today, as I described above, the same issue has occurred. I don't know what to do. Could the computer be in "sleep" mode?
Any suggestions would be appreciated. -
That's great news and good for you. Although Dell XPS likes to give me the run around at times, when they commit to a service call etc, its done in a very timely matter.
Props to Dell for 1530 repair
