I play alot of Rts games and right now i only have a 2.4 ghz witch isnt sufficent for Empire Total War. Is it possible to put a quad in here? I know it voids the warranty but i will put origonal in if i have to make a warranty claim. If you could provide an ebay link to a quad if it works please and thank you :)

Im playing it on medium settings 1280 x 720 but with rts games the faster the proccessor the larger number of units that can be on screen without lag. Rts are all AI so a 2.4 dual core can really only handle about 500 onscreen before a slowdown happens

I think that the biggest issue would be heat. The 2.4 is a 35W CPU were as the quad core are more like 135 watts. That would melt you laptop.

Heat would be a big issue, but all Intel mobile quads have a TDP of 45W. They definetly don't use 135 watts.
Dell does put that as an option in the Precision M4400 (15.4"), and I've been considering a similar upgrade for my 14.1" E6400. I feel like your (and my)cooling system could handle it, but I'm not sure about BIOS compatibility with the quads. If you try, let me know.

    45 Watts might be closer.

Also, is Total War threaded for four cores?

If you play a lot of RTS, why do you have an XPS 16?

To answer your question, no a C2Q will not work. BIOS, motherboard, and heat sink related issues.

You won't void the warranty by upgrading (if possible)....but yea just stick the old one in if you ever have to send it in.

I put the Core 2 extreme edition in mine. It gets hot underneath, so you can't really use it directly on your lap. However it's fine on top (the touchpad, keyboard and palm rest areas do not get too hot.) I went the the extreme as that actually looks to be faster than the quad core having higher ghz.

To be honest, I forgot they made a quad core for laptops lol! Yeah 45 watts is certainly closer to where you would need to be. I think it would still be pushing it though.
