Maybe a dumb question. Have searched, but cant seem to find an answer.
Will the M1530 support a Quad core CPU?
-
-
I doubt it. Most 17" don't having the cooling in place to deal with a quad.
-
Even it it would 100% fully support it.... the cooling in the Notebook would not be up to the task of cooling a quad core.
In simple terms:
Quad Core + Your M1530 = Melted chunk of plastic/aluminum. -
You'd need a BIOS update and some better thermal engineering. The M1730 could probably handle it.
-
-
Quad-cores will be suitable only for 17" (and +). Mobile Quad Cores will have more TDP than Core 2 Extremes.
-
So in short.. It will support it, but cant keep it cool?
-
could i use a mobile quad core?
-
It appears this chip will use a Socket P' and not Socket P because the interchanges are slightly different. Most likely it will not work in current notebooks. The TDP on these really isn't that bad either, 45W.
-
Socket P' ?? (Is there any ref link ?
)
Notebookcheck does state 45W, which is very high for the M1530. Plus, I am sure the M1530 BIOS will not support the QC, even if they are pin-compatible with the previous Penryns.
The 2 QCs that will be released will only available as OEM. So either buy them in bulk from Intel, stating you are a system builder ($800/CPU), or be luck enough to come across one on ebay....
(So, just go for a mobile QC notebook, when it arrives in September/later....) -
Thx for the Links atbnet.
Though the 35W QX9300 sounds preposterous.
The Socket P' thing is interesting. I am not surprised at hearing a new pin-grid array or a new socket, as there were unofficial publishings that the Montevina platform CPUs would be Socket B.
(Reghardware may have made a mistake when translating from chinese, or maybe a teaser from Intel)

well technically it could.. you just needa have a laptop cooler, undervolt it, and run it at like 1/2-2/3 of its stock speed xD
Quad core...
