I can't believe I have to get another replacement computer.Seriously, what happened to quality control????
Here's what happened in chronological order.
I received my first XPS in June.
Problem: 1. Kept restarting out of sleep mode Solved: with Intel Wireless card
Problem 2. Cursor jumped all around even with touch pad turned off.
Solved: New XPS
Second XPS- July
Problem: 1. Same restart after sleep problem. But this time disabling the card didn't help. Called Dell. They ordered a new motherboard. New motherboard came damaged. So another motherboard was sent.
Problem 2. Clicking HD. Solved: Dell sent a hard drive.
Problem 3. Spider Solitaire wouldn't launch bec/ it said I had no memory. Then I got registry errors. Solved: Another hard drive sent.
Last night after installing my hard drive, I found my computer wouldn't go to sleep. Tried disabling wireless card and the problem went away. Called Dell. They told me to d'load updated drivers for wireless and NVIDIA and stayed on the phone with me while I did it. During the download the screen shut off and vertical lines appeared on colored screen.
At that point tech offered, without my asking, to send another new, not refurbed, computer with updated bios.
Not only am I sick of restoring documents etc. But at this point I have no faith that my "new" computer will be okay.![]()

msboc, that is saddening in the least to hear
I think a 3rd replacement should automatically warrant a full refund to the customer! (And you should demand one!)
Which XPS btw, I am assuming 1530? -
.that's not good, and us fellow XPS owners, surely feel for you.
I hope that this 3rd one is the last one you have to call about, and that it all works well for you.
I know it's hard to even think this way....*but try to stay somewhat positive* about it...it may help

If I got a refund, what would I buy? -
If you get a refund, I think the HP dv5t and Sony Vaio FW would be a good fit if you want power + style. Well, I don't think the Sony Vaio FW has an 8600m GT. It has something like an 8400m GT.

Thanks. -
that is strange to say the least... i have the intel wireless card and mine goes into and comes out of sleep mode perfectly with no errors or restarts.. i guess some people are just unlucky to receive a bad product. Knock on wood i have never received a computer i have been unhappy with from dell.

On the bright side, you're getting a new computer. 'Again' I'll grant you, but still, it's nice to see that they're willing to pay for the trouble.
I'd say it's worth the gamble. Many here would testify the same. It's a popular product and for good reason. I'm sorry to hear you've had such a pig of an experience with the XPS line up to now though and hope that the third time's the charm. -
That's too bad man. Most people are lucky enough to get a great computer the first time but every now and then there is a series that slips though. I guess it was you this time that caught that series

Every XPS Ive had from Dell has worked flawlessly.
Maybe Im just lucky! -
I shouldn't have to say that I hope I'm lucky with the next one. They should all be fine. I've read about so many other problems on the board, that I'm just hoping my screen is fine, my fan works, there is no buldge, it sits evenly and my cursor doesn't fly all over the place. ( I'm sure I've missed some things.)
Actually, last night, when the guy told me I would get a new one, I really just wanted to keep this one and get it fixed. At least I know what problems it does and doesn't have. But apparenty the vertical lines are signs of something awful????? -
Just an update on my computer situation.
The third computer arrived a number of days ago. I just unpacked it; basically because I was dreading getting another one with problems. And it has them. There is more bleed on the screen than my others. The sleep issue persists whether the wireless card is disabled or not and it seems to run a good deal hotter than computer #2 with its second hard drive.
I called tech last night and spoke to a third level tech. (Apparently they now have five levels.) He said the lines that appeared when I was downloading the updates for the NVidia and wireless drivers were normal. He also said the sleep issues are because of the incompatibility of Vista and NVidia and that Microsoft was working on a patch that should be available soon.
At this point, computer #2 seems to have fewer issues than my third one. The tech said I should keep working on #2 for a week or so and report back if there are any problems besides the sleep, shutdown ones. (Actually last night I had to shut the computer down twice as it popped back on after shut down.)
Just would like your thoughts as to the accuracy of what he said. I have zero desire to transfer my stuff again, and then wait for a new screen etc. -
Ouch!!! Dude, dump dell, or maybe just that model..
I wonder, can you get an m1330 with an integrated graphics instead of nvidia? -

You should'nt have to waste SO much of your time on this issues especially after shelling out a grand +
Get on the phone, speak to a supervisor and DEMAND a full refund and DONT hang uP! -
man im thankful my only 1530 problem is a clicking wrist pad if you push down on it.
I was gonna call about that at first but then I realized If i got a replacement or if someone came to fix that, I'll probably got other problems -
paper_wastage Beat this 7x7x7 Cube
just plain bad luck i guess..
im happy with all my dell products
(Dimension E510 Desktop+Monitor, Dell Axim X51V PocketPC + BT GPS receiver, Dell XPS M1330) -
Woah....you are just having a grand time, eh?
...
lol.
If you get another replacement, you are a Saint in my bookIf this happened to me...at this point I would be returning it and getting my money back...and probably trying out something else...
So, what do you think you are going to do?
Cin
I guess I've been lucky with Dell thus far...for it being my first lappy and all..things are good -
duuuuude i had a very similar experience. dell shipped 3 laptops to my house, and only 1 was acceptable (it still had a couple minor problems, including the occasional sleep restart, slight keyboard bulge, clicking hard drive, and creaky wristpad. overall i like the laptop, but these problems should not be appearing as frequently as they do.
if i could do it over, i would definitely at least consider other brands. -
Here's my update... that is latest update.
I've working on Computer #2 (hard drive #2). I've solved the sleep/start-up issue by going to device manager/network/dell wireless/power management/and unchecking everything. Sleep has been fine ever since I did that.
Besides a screen with slight bleed, the only problem I seem to have with Computer #2 is...occasionally I get bumped off the Internet with the message that Microsoft Internet has stopped working... looking for a solution blah blah. This is a pain in the butt and crazy making if I'm working on something on line.
Question: Is this another Vista flaw? Or something unique to my computer?
I'm tempted to set up computer #3, do the wireless card thing and see what gives. That computer definitely needs a new screen. But that seems easy to get.
But tell me what you think about the IE issue.
Stepintoliquid, I'm sorry that you had the same experience. But I'm glad to know I'm not the only cursed one.
Why haven't I gone to another brand? I guess because I'm not sure about customer service. I hear HP stinks and I don't know much about the others.
Thanks for your help. -
At this point, replacing a screen shouldn't be an issue with the third system should you choose to go in that direction.
As far as any other issues go, make them known and they should be resolved as well.
If not, use the following link: https://support.dell.com/support/to...lcare/outstanding_issues_tech?c=us&l=en&s=gen
That is for unresolved issues. You will need your case or reference number.
