Can any dell xps m1530 take 8G of memory? I see on line that you have the option to pick 2 to 4 or 4 to 8. but if you pick the config with 4 gigs it list 4g the highest. but you can do config 8gigs and get 4, 6,8g options. does it require a different motherboard or will a one year old 1530 work with 8gigs?

They all can, it just depends on runnning the right bios.
If you are considering running 8GB buy the smallest possible amount from dell then buy the 4GB sticks elsewhere. -
well i got 8gigs free from a bad 1530 just havent installed it. so what bios should i use?

Latest is usually best.
As far as I can remember the first time they permitted more than 4Gb via the bios, was with A11.
Though they later recalled that.
A12 should be fine. -
okay thank you A12 is what im running.
