why does dell sell 800mhz ddr2 memory if the m1730 dont support it? i have 8gb ddr2 800mhz but bios only sees it as 667. what gives? anyway to change it to 800mhz?

Negative - its a limitation of the Intel chipset used in the M1730. This is what your FSB is seeing and 667Mhz is the max. No way to change it.

I'm not sure if its true, but I've heard 800mhz RAM is slightly better than 667, even when the FSB limits it to 667.

Well, 800mhz would only benefit your M1730 when OC'ding your Xtreme processors! Just a little more head space for room to breathe, all though it's already limited to 667mhz. Other than that 667mhz would be just fine and can't even tell the difference!

When you overclock the Xtreme processors it only raises the multiplier and not the FSB so the memory speed is irrelevant.
