today i noticed im already filling up my HD quit fast and then i noticed that my 320GB HD doesnt has 320GB >.< I did a fresh vista instal after i got my M1530 and im sure i deleted all partitions except the media one. Now i have 2 partitions one of 295GB en one for the media which is i think arround 3 or 4 Gb so where did the remaining 20GB go to ? is there a hidden recovery partition or something what is it ?

There are some hidden partitions. And what they call a GB is really only 1000MB..not a true GB. You should have closer to 305 - 310 GB.

I think it is a recovery partition. You can get rid of it if you want.

320GB to a computer is actually 298GB. You won't have more than that.

I have another HD related question. It seems that im loosing HD space to nothing... I have 233Gb free of the 295 which means i use 62GB... But i only have Vista on it, Office 2007 and a CS3 (photoshop,Flash etc) and COD4 And 2Gb music/video's. And im pretty sure that wont take up 62GB can this be a vista thing ? Im also using 1,1GB of memory now after i startup that used to be 650MB after the fresh isntal i did 1 week ago :S

I'm kinda getting enough of vista ....

Oke wtf is going on... i did a restart just before te restart i had 233Gb free after the restart 229 this thing is just eating GB's for nothing ........ Also after it starts it busy with something for quite some time cpu usage of about 20-80% and ram goes up from 650 to 1Gb with no reason

    Edit:
to be sure i did another restart and again there disappeared 1Gb...

edit: Aftersome searching i decided i had to disable system restore. After I disabled it i gained 34GB o_O

Did you install updates or something? The system restore is probably eating away at your resources by creating shadow copies. If your system is stable, you may want to delete some of your shadow copies. This is available under Start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> System Tools --> Disk Cleanup. I think its under the advanced tab there (and should read something along the lines of "remove system restore shadow copies"). That should recover a good portion of your disk space (a couple of GBs for sure). Also how much RAM are you using? You may want to consider turning pagefiling off to save more space.

Look at the NBR Vista Tweaks and Tips thread.

Did you install SP1? SP1 will leave the install files behind, and backup files incase you deside to go back. There is a command or option somewhere (I use XP) that will allow you to delete those files.

Also make sure you clean out your temporary internet files etc.... I use CCleaner for all that fun stuff.

In terms of partitions they are the following:

    1) Recovery Partition (Hidden)
    2) C Drive Partition
    3) D Drive Recovery Partition
    4) Mediadirect Partition (Hidden)
