I had my XPS 1330 for over about a week now. After using it for a week, here are somethings I have noticed:

    1. HIGH PITCH NOISE when CPU is operating - This gets VERY ANNOYING when you are at a libary or some where quiet. (Is this just me? or is this happening to everone?)

    2. Like I said, I only had this for a week and the F5 button on the keyboard, the paint is coming off already. I NEVER use F5 function key. Who does??

    3. Some scratches on the border of the screen. I didn't do this. It came like this from the factory.

Now that there is a "Better" configuration out, I rather pay 100 more to get a better configuration laptop.
Please let me know if any of these are happening to you. If so, I'm going to call Dell and have this laptop returned.

    This is my specs:
    1.66ghz
    120gb hard drive
    1gb RAM (upgraded to 4gb)
    LED screen
    White cover

I have been lucky and haven't experience the high pitch noise (whine?) yet. There have been a couple of times when it would make noises, but it stopped once I put it on a flat surface.

I just got mine last Friday and I also have the noise; I posted a topic on it earlier but didn't get any responses. It is extremely irritating, and I think I will return mine.

It's really a shame, because it is a beautiful laptop in all other respects.

    hello gswarriors,

let me know how that return goes. Overall, XPS 1330 is an awesome machine but I am not satisfied about this noise.

I have a quick fix for this, if you don't want to or can't return your machine.

The noise is at its worst when the computer is on a hard surface (desk/table), which helps to reflect the noise underneath the computer and out the gaps on the edges (like the gap on the front right of the machine, underneath the card reader). When the machine is on something softer (like a lap, sofa, etc.), the noise is dampened. When the machine is on nothing at all, the noise does not get guided in any particular direction, and dissipates quickly.

I just place my computer on something soft to dampen the noise, like a stack of scrap copy paper I had lying around my desk. This dampens the noise, and is much easier to deal with. I have both batteries (6- and 9-cell), and this works well for both. Heat may be an issue with this, especially with the 6-cell battery, but I haven't had any problems.

I can still hear the noise if I put my ear a few inches away from the computer, but I can't pick it up if I'm in a normal position (ear more that 1 foot away).
