If you open up GPU-Z and click on the sensors tab, what is your idle core and memory clocks, as well as temperature? Also what version of the Catalyst drivers are you using?

I just updated to 10.6 and mine is idling at 300/796.5/53, but I could have sworn the memory would clock down to 300 as well before the upgrade.

EDIT: OS might help troubleshoot the problem as well. This is on 7 x64.

Mine shows 300/500/45 on 10.6, it's always been this way for me on every catalyst version

Dont worry bro. Thats the Idle clock speed of the GPU, This helps save power and increase battery life. As soon as the GPU has load on it, it goes back to its full clock speeds.

Oh I know this, I'm more concerned with the idle speeds as I don't want more heat and power draw on my laptop than there needs to be (also considering applying some real thermal paste).
